House 11/7

Tonight, House spends a night in the slammer on various charges. It’ll be interesting to see him out of his element. Also, a 600-pound man comes into the clinic.
Come into the thread whenever you’re ready…

I am so mad that I have to work tonight! They scheduled me out of my availability but I am a pushover so now I have to run to work directly from class and miss House! One of you awesome technologically-savvy people should put it on YouTube… Someone actually put the whole Hugh Laurie ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio’ on YouTube in 5 parts. Besides CSI, this is the only show I keep up with so I get annoyed when I miss it.

bumping for the 600-pounder

I bet House will want to divide this guy into three 200-pound patients, and Cameron will try to talk him out of it.

Anyone know who’s playing the obese guy? (yes, fine, I want to check what’s real and what’s make-up)

It’s Pruitt Taylor Vince.

Damn I’m good. That’s who I thought it was as I watched the episode, and IMDB confirms it. Even under the fake fat, his eyes look just as odd as they did when he played Gerry Schnauz on the X-Files.

This episode seemed all over the place to me and except for Cameron’s quips (which are improving drastically), the best actor of the evening award goes to Pruitt Taylor Vince for turning his role into something more than a cliche’.

But I have to ask…

1.) Why is everyone covering for House? It all can’t be because he’s brilliant.

2.) Is Wilson seeing Cameron? I keep getting this on-the-sly vibe.

3.) Where’d Chase go? I have to have my weekly dose of him to sleep (sometime) to.

Ahh, so many reasons (the link is to a remarkably good Mad TV parody. Well, by the show’s standards. At least before it was compared to good SNL)

He’s sitting on his ASS, like House instructed him to!

Ooo. I’m good too. His eyes gave him away. Wish you were watching it with me. My five year old sooo did not get it.

That was really good fat makeup. Usually when people are made up with to look obese you can tell, it just doesn’t look or move like normal flesh. But that looked very realistic.

The make-up was amazing. The arms and hands looked a little false in some shots but the lower face was flawless. The texture was realistic and, try as I might, even in HD, I couldn’t spot any seams.

What’s with the jittery movements of the actor’s eyes?

Dunno. Seemed a little… “forced”, all around. I mean, looks like they’re trying to force a New And Improved Cameron down everyone’s throats. I’m liking the interraction between House and his Nemesis. I still wish I knew why everyone lies for the asshole (I mean, let’s face it, he is an asshole)… especially poor Wilson. Ayee!

On the upside, Patient Of The Week didn’t get checked for Lupus. As a new viewer who has had a crash course on House (and watching Season 1 & 2 back to back, closely), I have discovered that when in doubt, check for Lupus and STDs. Lupus and sex, baby, those are bad for ya…

Yeah, it was a good job. The only thing that truly gave it away was when they showed his hands. You could tell they had the “fat gloves” on them.

Why was Chase so vehemently against helping this guy? Are we going to find out his Mum or Dad were morbidly obese and neglected him as a child or something?

Cameron’s really sticking up for her beliefs now. I like that.

Is this the right place to ask a “medical” question about the show? Why did clubbed hands indicate lung cancer? Or did I totally miss what happened?

While I suppose he had his reasons, Wilson was pretty stupid to claim the signatures were his. The cop could easily find an expert to prove him lying. Not that they’d go after Wilson, but a perjury rap (and the cop was very careful to set up a case for perjury with that, “Now take your time and think about it” speech) would give them a lot of leverage to get House. Wilson’s going pretty damn far for an unreciprocated friendship (House doesn’t really treat him as a friend).

I’m guessing that something about the cop’s nicotine gum is going to give House an out; he’ll probably diagnose some life-threatening condition due to it and the cop will drop the case – either in gratitute or, more likely, because he sees that House is of more use to society in the hospital than in jail.

Yeah the Gum thing is really sort of a tell isn’t it?

The seam for the facial make up of the fat suit can be seen near his temple. There is a little lump that didn’t look quite right. Other than that it was quite convincing.

Is it me or did it look like Laurie broke character for a second and almost laughed as he was saying his line about being tapped out of Fat Jokes?

There’s precedent–in season 1 (the episode “Heavy”) he had the same sorts of problems with a fat child.

His parents weren’t morbidly obese (though he did have a lousy relationship with his dad and I believe his mom died of alcoholism) and neither was he. IIRC he just doesn’t like fat people (thinks they’re lazy and it’s their own fault that they got the way they were).

You can find answers to some medical questions here. This guy is a doctor who reviews each episode of House and provides information about the medicine on the show. He says clubbing is usually caused by chronic oxygen deficiency.

According to the IMDB, the actor has nystagmus, a condition which causes a person’s eyes to move involuntarily. The character mentioned this condition in the show, and the doctors agreed that it was unrelated to his current illness.
