Chase forges a bond with a patient who is about to become a nun, while Taub and House prank each other.
I’m sure it was supposed to be a symbol for the mini arc he went though during the course of the episode, but he went from limp with crutches to walking like nothing had happened over two days.
Also, did anyone else want to tell both Park (who I’ve never had a problem with) and jail doc to STFU. Jail doc was getting particularly obnoxious when Chase started the surgery. I was really hoping Chase would either say “You’ve made you’re point, now be quiet” or “House, can you please get her out of here”
One thing that always bugged me about this show is that there’s always one doctor on the team who even after months of working with the group still doesn’t jive with them. One person who always had to point out that what they were doing was wrong, one person that had to go running to Cuddy every five minutes etc. I get that they need to have a thorn in their collective side, but it just seems like lazy writing sometimes.
And the whole wah wah wah from jail doc during the surgery and Foreman pulling him off the case didn’t really make any difference anyways. At least not that I could tell. Other then chewing up five minutes, I don’t think anything would have changed if it was left in.
I have to wonder if Cuddy would have stuck it out for the last season if she knew it was going to end. OTOH, I think it ended because she left.
Anyways, as far as the episode goes, it seemed pretty average to me and I think everything will be 100% back to normal next week.
I liked the episode a lot because I think Chase is one of the most interesting and under-explored characters on the show.
The subplot with Taub and House was ridiculous, but also kind of funny.
Did it bother anyone else that Taub put the lunch tray on the table paint side down?
The time frame of most of the episode was established as three weeks after the accident. I think the final scene – without crutches – was supposed to be some time after that.
Ahh, but even so, he was on crutches and limping when POTW was admitted (the nun, in the clinic). I figured he slept with her that night, but I supposed it could have been days or even a week later now that I think about it. Was there any mention of the amount of time between her being discharged and then her showing up at his door? I just assumed it was that night?
But like I said, I think it was just supposed to be a symbol for his ‘mental recovery’.
Did this episode seem familiar to anyone? I swear I’ve seen the story of the doubting nun making a guy fall in love with her and then rediscovering her faith and breaking his heart.
I know nothing about medicine (except that it’s never lupus). But why does getting stabbed put you on crutches? I don’t understand the connection between the injury and his legs. Could someone explain that to me?
He was stabbed in he heart - fixing that led to paralysis that was caused by a blood clot in/near the spine - it took them long enough to find the clot that some damage was done - in fact it was ‘feared’ he would not walk again.
Maybe the symbolism was heavy handedly obvious, and I’m a dolt for thinking I’m clever to see it. But… I liked how Chase was suddenly doing the deductive reasoning thing… “You’re wearing a blue veil… and that tells me that you haven’t taken your vows… and that tells me that…” and so on. Add to that the fact that he’s on crutches and hobbling around, and the title of the episode is “Chase,” and it becomes clear that we are supposed to wonder if Chase is turning into House. Clever, if a tad obvious.
Other than that, decent episode. I liked how House himself was only a minor supporting character for a change.
PS - is it just me, or is true for everyone that now that we know the show is ending, every episode takes on a much larger significance?
Was I the only one expecting something to go horribly wrong when Chase made some shortcuts during the emergency surgery? Glad they averted their standard that’s-what-you-get-for-taking-risks drama for a change.
What was the song at the end?
I dunno, but I’m sick of the song-at-the-end-of-dramas chestnut. When “House” dies, hopefully this old cliche dies with it.
So last week a patient stabbed Chase in the heart, and this week, one breaks his heart? Not a good month for the poor guy’s cardiac health.
I tend to agree, but it’s a staple on plenty of other shows, so don’t hold your breath.
Why was Chase acting so surprised that Park would ask him out on a date? Didn’t she already do that once a few episodes ago?
You know, that would be an awesome way to end the series, you know. By having House come down with some horrible dread disease that his team can’t diagnose/cure in time and it kills him.
Now that I think of it, I think this is the ONLY proper way to end the series.
It’ll be Lupus.
But have House himself FINALLY figure it out. The diagnosis, that is. But it’s too late to save his life. But he doesn’t care; he can die happy, because he just solved an awesome mystery, and you might as well go out on a high note.
Nah. He’ll have a stroke and wake up with an English accent.
