House 2/14

The baby started crying and I missed what was actually wrong with the boy. The last I saw was House talking to Foreman about the burn on his wrist. So what happened?

Did House hire a hooker at the end?

The kid was a smoker and apparently bought cheapo patches off the net - that has cheapo antidepressants in them. If someone wants to clarify, be my guest.

And yes House hired one of the most attractive hookers I’ve ever seen.

And he was tripping in the locker room. Ha!

Oh, you knew the harder drugs were hiding just around the bend.

And judging from the preview for next week’s episode, there’s more to come…man oh man, do I love House the junkie.

That was a good episode. I’m liking the way Foreman’s developing.

Of course. The man’s already a Vicodin addict, and now Stacey’s left again. Makes sense. But I just thought the LSD was funny. It’s when he starts on methadone, heroin, moprhine, etc that we’ve got a real problem.

Clarification: It wasn’t patches, it was a Mexican knock-off version of Zyban the kid probably bought via the web. The theory being that he was looking to quit smoking, and bought pills that were loaded up with who knows what kind of anti-depressents. These caused the seizures, which caused the ATV accident.

I don’t think you can really consider LSD a “harder” drug than prescription opioids. It has a profound subjective effect, but it’s as safe as milk compared to something like vicodin.

…and in no way did that special effect make me think “LSD.” It was cool, though.

LSD was originally developed as a possible headache remedy. I don’t know if it actually works for migraines, but it’s just the thing for cluster headaches. With a few side-bennies – “Not only have I stopped wanting to blow my head off to make the pain stop, but the universe is conscious and it loves me.”

Wow, what an ep. It shocked me when House burst out laughing at the lecture; I don’t remember ever hearing him laugh before.
Is there a way to cushion burn patients so they don’t have to lie directly on a burned back like this kid was?
Ooooh, House be trippin’…Far out, man. Groovy. And distractions can be delivered just like pizza.

I can’t wait till next week!

What. An. Episode. House actually got a hooker. After all the jokes, all the rimshots, all the sarcasm. He actually got a hooker. Hoo wee. And waking up the burn victim? Genius.

By the way, regarding the final exchange of dialogue in the preview:

This makes a lot more sense if you have an incredibly dirty mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

Is that what they mean by “may cause a false sense of wellbeing”? Listing that as a side effect has always puzzled me.

Is any of House on DVD yet? I’ve always wanted to catch an episode and never managed to. Now I want to start at the beginning.

House Season 1 is out on DVD. It’s around 50-ish bucks, depending on where you get it from.

House Season 1 is on DVD. It’s around 50-ish bucks US, depending on where you get it.

The entire scene with Wilson and the migraned House had me rolling. Especially when Wilson dumped the cutlery into the sink. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just need to start recording. I missed what Wilson was doing too. I have this wonderful angel baby, who decided that Tuesdays from 8-10 would be a great time for throwing fits. I miss chunks of House and AI every week, and those are the only 2 shows I watch consistently!

At least I can Netflix Season 1!! Does anyone know if Fox encores House anytime during the week? I guess I need to check my local listings. And it’s gonna be so hard to remember it’s on Monday next week!

I liked Wilson trying to talk him down in the auditorium. “Get a hooker, anything.”

Foreman seems to have given up being angry at House and is just managing the symptoms - treating him for the migraine, and running to stop him from waking up the kid again.

It looks like House is falling apart. The previews for next week show a low point, possibly, because he says something about not wanting “them” to see him like this. So far he hasn’t been particularly ashamed of his actions.

USA Network is showing House reruns from last season. I think it’s on Friday at 11 Eastern time (after Monk), and they just started a few weeks ago.

Ergotamines are used for migraine control, but they aren’t first line anymore. Different parts of the ergot than LSD, though, and they don’t cause hallucinations.

This show is a bit better than Grey’s Anatomy about functioning like a real medical team, although they have a ways to go to get to the level of ER or even Scrubs. But what I’m grooving on is the glorification of the differential diagnosis and teaching rounds. I’m also loving how much they make you actively dislike House. Not only was that stunt with the lecturer rude and unprofessional, but he was wrong with his n=1 assessment and got his ass handed to him. This is not saying that the classmate is right, or that what he did was honorable or even ethical with drug-company sponsored research, or that his paper in Hindi was legitimate – it all smells like a big skunk, and House was right to voice his concerns if the published paper was BS. If the data on the table is wrong, then the drug companies should hear the concerns, and that was the correct way to go about things in the first place (and it worked in the end). But the lecture/coma patient/testing on himself proved nothing, made him sick, and in the end worked against him in the eyes of his teammates, his hospital, and his colleagues (especially Wilson).

In most shows, the anti-hero actually turns out to be more of a rebel who doesn’t follow the rules and wins in the end. It takes guts to actually make an anti-hero a real bastard. House and Sawyer on Lost (after the last episode) are the only two that stick out in my mind as really unlikeable.

Two things I didn’t like about this episode.

a. The amazing flaming ATV. C’mon, it was an ATV, not a bomb. That explosion and fire was far too Hollywood.

b. House disobeying the parents orders and charging into the isolation room. Wouldn’t that pretty much spell the end of his career? (I know – half the stuff he does is potentially career-ending, but you have to be sort of realistic.)
And if the kid’s brain was seizing because of anti-depressants (and/or nicotine withdrawl), wouldn’t it just clear up once he stopped taking them?

Sounds like you suspension of disbelief missed the train. He’s a drug addict, that should end his career. He’s beligerent and a total asshole to patients, enough complaints and that should end his career. He took drugs while on the job. Do you think any hospital would allow a doctor like him to take LSD while at work? The list goes on and on, and the suspension of disbelief is all we’ve got.
