House 3/15 - Breaking the Formula

Ok, so this was the first show to break out of the mold of the few few episodes and with interesting results. All the drama of the disease was resolved by 9:35 PM, but then began (or continued) the drama of hospital politics. This should be interesting. A new head of the board who isn’t really happy with the money House is spending on things. Seems like we may see less of the ‘formula’ people are complaining about.

Every now and then I have a hard time separating an actor from a previous role. I kept looking at Sarah Clarke and seeing her as the evil Nina Myers from 24. This made it difficult for me to want her to get better. I sort of wanted House to scream “Die, you traitor” and beat her up with his cane.

Just a few weeks ago, House featured the actress who played Jack Bauer’s wife in the first season of 24.

Makes me wonder. Who’s next? Sherry Palmer?

I loved the part where House tried to usher Vogler out of his office by dramatically cuing up “Baba O’Riley” … but he mistakenly plays “Hava Nagila.”

The Baba O’Riley bit made me expect that Gary Sinise might walk in any minute.

I thought that House was a little out of character in this episode. He seemed to get more emotional about this patient than any of the others.

And why would he tell Dr. Cameron that he doesn’t like her? She knows he likes her - he invited her to the Monster Truck rally.

Have you noticed that nobody has had a seizure in three or four episodes now?

A month or so ago the girlfriend of the Sick Guy was played by the same actress who’s playing the dead girl on Veronica Mars, so when she showed up in the teaser we were all, wait, what day is this???

He said later in the episode that he doesn’t like anybody.

My theory on why he was more attached to his patient was that, at least in part, a grateful CEO of (not Revlon) would be a potent ally to have on his side of the bargaining table if the new CoB got testy.

There’s also the point that the lady doctor cut right to the bone at the beginning by pointing out that maybe this patient had the same problem House had.

Does he? He could have wanted someone to go with, that doesn’t mean he likes her or anyone else for that matter.

Or, it could be a motivating thing. Like he is making Chase think that he may be fired to make him work better.

Question: The guy with the paralyzed vocal cords. Why should he worry about getting his voice back? The malpractice award (a million bucks!) was legitimate, based on the best information available at the time. There was no fraud. The guy didn’t scam anybody, he WAS injured, and was compensated.

That Dr. House came along at a later date and was able to (1) make a diagnosis, and (2) treat it with nothing even remotely resembling the patient’s consent, informed or otherwise, would be, I think, legally irrelevent. I seriously doubt that the patient would have a legal obligation to return the money. A moral obligation, perhaps, but as far as the award goes, I think he’s in the clear.

Well, that raises the ugly counter-issue of why the guy didn’t charge House with battery, and how much money he could have gotten out of the hospital to avoid exposing them to a HUGE amount of negative publicity…

And now the show is set up to get rid of a cast member. Presumably either Cuddy or whatever Dr. House’s friend’s name is, which means he must be the one who is going to get fired.
