House 4/19: Knight Fall

Wilson tries to spark romance again with his ex.

House ensues.

Wow, the eye contact episode, nicely done. Most of the framing of scenes was done up close, specificaly with eye contact between the actors. So many good interactions there, especially with 13’s gorgeous eyes. Dialogue had many “I see” type hints, but not overdone. That’s enough said to get folks in the later time zones to appreciate what I didn’t quite see til halfway through.

Ok folks, what’s your best guess about the patient’s bloody eyes? Were those some kind of contact lenses from the make-up crew or was the bloody effect added post production through computer imaging?

All things considered, a fairly decent episode - call it a B+

The red eyes? In the old days it would have been contact lenses that cover the whole eye. These days I’d say CGI. They looked a little too red on my TV.

Don’t know, Alpha, and wondered about it, but, it was the great clue in from the gitgo about the eye contact theme of the show.

I went into this episode hoping to like it, but wound up seriously disappointed.

A lot of my friends (from Ren Faire) were extras. I saw at least 4 that I knew by name, and 5 or 6 others by sight. And OK, yeah, every time there’s a TV show about Faire they portray the participants as total nutjobs who THINK IT’S REAL!!! So I was expecting that, and found far less of it than I expected.

However…what the fuck was up with the totally gratuitous "ZOMG WITCHRAFT!!! bit?

And also, if he were juicing, they would have found traces of it in his apartment. Needles, medicines, packaging, a package arriving if he got it off the internet, SOMETHING.

As I said, disappointing.

I was a little disappointed, too. Witchcraft? yeah, so? The Big Realization took so long, it was anti-climatic. Was that Libby, from Lost, playing Wilson’s ex-wife, and what was so evil about her? The only thing I really enjoyed was House’s date.

I didn’t understand the “Eureka!” moment in this episode. I think House was looking at the sword when he had his weekly epiphany. But what exactly was the train of thought that led him to the answer?..TRM (who also thought the whole Necronomicon angle was a loose end)

I sense a love triangle cross-over fight coming between Hurley and Wilson.

The writers need a ‘big moment’ to go to commercial on. Thus the witchcraft scene. These work better if they have something to do with the story. In this case it had little to do with the story and nothing to do with the denouement. Poor.

Man, I totally missed that there was anything different about “eye contact” with this ep.

Agree as to the juice/witchcraft holes.

I may be missing something and I’m sure I am, but is there any possibility that House was the Black Knight that fought William at the start???

I kinda thought that myself, judging by the closeup of the eyes through the visor hole…TRM

Are we talking about the actor playing the Black Knight for fun? Or “House” the character playing the Black Knight?

I think the latter is totally impossible. I don’t think he’s tall enough, he certainly doesn’t have the agility needed (unless he’s been faking that limp forever), and once the other knight’s problem is revealed he would have been compelled to instantly offer medical care.

As for the actor – well, I don’t think he’s as large as the Black Knight looked, though I suppose there are ways to fake it. But would the producers be happy about their star risking concussion or worse for no gain?

I didn’t see the witchcraft as a hole - they were looking for something to cause his symptoms, the witchcraft room was hidden, had lots of ‘stuff’ to make potions and a recipe book - its not illogical to pursue the info there as a cause to his problems - if not in eliminating them. It was also “not knightly”.

Why they didnt find evidence of his Juicing - well, he covered it up well - otherwise, I’ll agree that was a bit dues-x-medical to throw it in at the last minute - myself, I was hoping the hemlock poisoning was the real cause.

I missed it to. Explanation please?

  1. House has a permanent disability and relies on a cane to walk.
  2. The knights involved in this Ren Faire seem to be permanent members of a troupe - you’d sorta think that the queen and William would recognize someone they’ve been working with for years, wouldn’t you?
  3. House is the most talented diagnostic doctor in the country, working for the same hospital for a decade. You think he’s been moonlighting with a traveling bunch of “idiots” on the side?

Pretty good overall. I especially liked House with the sword, the costume later, and his confrontation of the ex.

That was my problem with: nobody seems to have questioned him about having made/taken any potions with unusual ingredients. And I’d also loved to have heard him explain how he reconciles his ambition to be a pure and noble knight with delving into black magic.

The steroids was just totally out of nowhere, IMHO. I see don’t see what triggered that idea in House from staring at a sword AND it’s not like this guy expected his apartment to be searched, so I find it unbelievable that he didn’t have some drugs/syringes/whatever tucked away.

Going back to college days, there would not be a single trace of so much as marijuana in my living quarters…on days my parents were due to visit. On your random Wednesday afternoon? Uh…

Another who is totally baffled by the references to eye contact. I’m trying to recall any such moments and I’m coming up empty (other than the normal interchange of significant glances to underline some plot point or other.)
