House 4/24: Cuddy n' Wilson sittin' in a tree...

I loved Cuddy’s clinical analysis of the unseen photo.

*C (squinting for a closer look): That’s gotta be causing some damage to the large intestine.

W: Is that a bicycle pump?*
Great place for a second date. And was the exhibit meant to be an allusion to this ?

Me too. That’s the impression I got throughout this episode and last week’s when Wilson and Cutty went on their first date (“I slept with her.” “Really?” “Yeah…no.”)

I think Wilson and House make an extremely cute couple.

And also this episode terrified me beyond normal hypochondriac levels since I have a currently have a staph infection. Gah. Of course, I also have an intact immune system…as far as I know.

Due to massive thunderstorms in Dallas, the last 10 minutes of House was interrupted with weather bulletins. Could someone spoil the last bit of the show?

Thanks!

The staff misdiagnosed Lupe’s symptoms. They treated her for cancer and gave her radiation therapy. The radiation killed off her immune system and she fell prey to a staph infection. Foreman felt especially responsible. He prevented House from taking a biopsy from her while she was still alive and stayed at her bedside until she passed on. House later did a post-mortem and discovered Lupe’s infection entered her body through a scratch caused by her bra. House and Foreman had a bonding moment where House told Foreman everybody screwed up, House included and that diagnosing is not a perfect art. House said he couldn’t forgive Foreman because there was nothing to forgive. Foreman then went to visit his parents. He told his mother how he felt badly for his mistake. His mother said she forgave him. She didn’t recognize Foreman, however, because of her condition (Alzheimer’s?) Foreman said, “Don’t you know me? I’m Eric.” She said “I have a son named Eric.”

Oh, and House took in Wilson’s dog.

What I found touching was how sweet Mrs Foreman was to Eric, even realizing that she didn’t know who he was.

I missed the first half of the show, so I hope someone I know recorded it. But, as far as the second half…

I am never wearing a bra again.

Hey, but Wilson said “You mean all it was was a simple staph infection?” That should make you feel better.

I love this show, but it often requires suspension-of-disbelief that is beyond my capabilities. Would any medical team ever subject a patient to such extensive radiation treatment just because they speculate that she “might” have cancer? Nah, I’m not believing it. Wilson, the oncologist, would have run to Cuddy to tell her that House and his kids were preparing to do something very naughty.

I didn’t see the first half, but how shifty did they make the patient out to be? It’s bugging me that the first time they have someone die in quite a while, they choose someone presumably less than upstanding.

It started with her helping a three card monty dealer scam a mark. She described her job history as alternating from a mediocre job to unemployment multiple times. She admitted smoking crack ‘a few times’. Then of course in the end she described herself as a person who had made a number of mistakes in her life but believed that because of her fairly young age that she had time to get her lifetogether.

I agree that it sort of came across as her ‘deserving’ what she got. But a lot of that was colored by Foremans negative view of her.

Gee, it never occurred to me that she deserved what she got. Maybe that’s because I’ve had mediocre jobs, periods of unemployment, and have occasionally used drugs. To me she seemed like a very normal young woman. Foreman’s suspicions about her were rather disturbing, I thought.

I didn’t say I felt that way. A lot of it was conjecture on Foremans part as to the type of person she was. Although to honest, they didn’t really show any positive side of her at all. It reminded a lot of the horror movie cliche that you do bad things (sex, drugs etc) you will die.

This episode was directed by Paul McCrane, who used to play Dr. Romano on “ER.” That started me to thinking: if Dr. Romano and Dr. House clashed over a diagnosis, wouldn’t that be a treat to see? Then when we got tired of watching, we could drop a helicopter on 'em.

If that’s the case, why should she expect House to do anything to help? As Wilson’s friend, that’s not his job. Also, my memory may be faulty, but House said WilsonWife hated him from the beginning, which wouldn’t make sense if him not helping salvage her marriage was the reason. Remember, she named their dog a hateful name after House on their honeymoon, before WW’s marriage started falling apart. WW indicated that House wanted Wilson to spend all his time with House, and that was why WW resented him.

I agree, but with House having different reasons. Don’t mind me, I’ve always battled the 'shippers in various shows.

Amen! House with his scruffy curmudgeon…liness, and Wilson with his smooth, boyish caring… I’ll be in my bunk.
I was disappointed with how little time was spent with Foreman’s parents. There was a lot of potential in that subplot, and it seemed wasted.

I was also thinking as the patient was dying, “Well, the Dopers wanted a patient to die, and they got their wish.”

I think when she said that House’s presence didn’t do anything to help the marriage, she meant what you went on to say…that House’s neediness re Wilson, and Wilson’s lack of a spine re standing up to House was one of the things that helped contribute to the breakup of the Wilsons’ marriage. She didn’t mean that when they were getting divorced, House failed to arrange marriage counseling for them or something.

I’m just glad that I’m not the underwriter for the hospitals’ malpractice insurance.

I prefer front-hook bras. They tend not to dig in since they’re latched right in front of the cleavage. However, any bit of hard plastic or metal can dig into a person’s skin, so YMMV.

God, I could just watch an hour of dialogue between House and Wilson. The interplay between them is just hysterical. There really is a great rapport between those two. House is really the first time I’ve laughed out lout at the television since the Simpsons.

It cracks me up every time Wilson has some food or drink for himself and House just comes along and starts eating or drinking it as if it’s his.

Ah, I see. Still, House’s neediness towards Wilson to the point of breaking up a marriage says something about the House/Wilson relationship, I think. Sure, it’s an unhealthy, codependent relationship, but I’ll take my slash any way I can get it. Though honestly, I don’t think we’ll ever see any House/Wilson lovin’ come to fruition, not as long as the show’s on Fox.
