The original patient died and Foreman had the same condition. However, since no one knew what it was and how dangerous it could be, Cuddy had the CDC perform the autopsy, which took longer. This required the House gang to perform an incredibly dangerous procedure on Foreman, where they had to biopsy a big chunk of his brain.
