House of the Dragon 2.05 "Regent" 7/14/24 OPEN SPOILERS

Anything that was on the show requires no spoiler boxes. Any material from outside of the show (books, leaks, etc) requires spoiler boxes.

Sorry I’m late. I need to set a weekly reminder for myself. My enthusiasm/attention hasn’t been there this season.

2.01: A Son for a Son
2.02: Rhaenyra The Cruel
2.03: The Burning Mill
2.04: The Red Dragon and The Gold

Alicent’s look of shock when she realized the guy she’s been banging and the guy she’s been letting jerk off to her feet are happy to throw her under the bus was perfect. That said, they were right that putting a woman in charge after what they did would really undermine their whole claim to the throne.

Surprise, surprise Daemon doesn’t like being king-consort. At least the incest means his kids have his surname and he’s not a bloody amoeba!

The parallels between Daemon and Aemond are a little on the nose. Both with their mommy issues, neither able to maintain a stable relationship. Both nakedly ambitious and will let nothing get in their way. Their innate cruelty is the greatest obstacle to their respective pursuits of power. Daemon is making quite a hash of things.

I guess we know the anticipated fates now of the characters Hugh, Addam, Alyn and the fellow in the tavern who claimed to be Daemon’s half-brother.

It seems clear that Cole’s loyalties blow with the wind, that he has some awareness of Aemond’s role in Aegon’s dragon mishap and doesn’t care. I dislike this character more than all the others. A total opportunist.

Things I didn’t understand:

Who was it that Mysaria’s errand-runner went to see in King’s Landing, name of Elinda? And who were the riders who rode out under cover of darkness near the end, led by the man on a white horse?

Looks like we’ll meet some new dragons in the next episode. Should be fun!

Is it wrong that I’m more worried about the poor dog still waiting on his dead master to come back than I am about the humans?

I’m not happy that Aegon is alive. He should have been dead, if not from the fight, then from being carried back to King’s Landing in a box. But ok. Maybe this is where magic will come in @Sherrerd.

Cole made a serious error in judgement parading Meleys’ head through the city. You don’t show the small folk that their gods are just meat. Especially when their lives suck so much. I’m pretty sure Otto would never have made such a mistake.

I do imagine that Corlys’ sons might be two of the new dragon riders but I thought that you had to have Targaryen blood. Unless their mother is also from a Targaryen line, they are just part Velaryon and I didn’t think Velaryons were dragon riders. Corlys isn’t, but maybe he was just not interested.

I’m not really liking the Daemon craziness. It seems that Alys is drugging him but in whose interest? Larys? They need to get on with it - it’s just kind of boring.

Rhaenyra sent her maid Elinda to King’s Landing. The woman who answered the door was the maid Aegon raped in season one - Dyana. We last saw her as a barmaid at the brothel where Aegon and Aemond hang out.

Agreed, this whole Daemon-is-losing-it point has been driven to death.

Thank you! I know Dyana was the barmaid at the brothel, but I didn’t clock her as being the same person who answered the door to Elinda.

Still curious about those night riders at the end!

It also could be that they are setting up the “small-folk” man who had petitioned Aegon, who tried to escape with his family, as being one of the previously-unknown descendants of the Targaryens.

He was filmed from the back as the family tried (unsuccessfully) to get out the city gate–and his long platinum hair was very prominent in the shot.

I’m pretty sure it’s Alfred Broome, who she is sending to babysit Daemon. It’s dark but looks like him and has the same gorget.

That’s exactly right. Duh on my part. I re-watched the end of the episode and finally paid attention to the discussion Rhaenyra had with Ser Alfred, where she tasked him with speaking to Daemon and delivering the message that she hoped she and Daemon could finish the conversation they started when last they spoke. Thank you!

It’s a good thing Alicent didn’t hear Aegon’s “mummy”, otherwise she would have just assumed he was naming her King.

You win the internet today.

2.06 thread

Didn’t like this week or last week. Some things are happening, but it would have been a slow half an hour let alone a fun hour. Pick it up!

At first I thought Larys was trying to get Aemon to kill himself, but don’t think so anymore.

I suppose Rhaena is going to claim the wild dragon in the Vale. Then there are two more unclaimed dragons on Dragonstone? The claimed bastard in King’s Landing seems like a likely candidate.

Merged threads-- I think I got the right one. It helps when you’re reporting duplicate threads if you include a link to the other one.

@Snarky_Kong ‘s post above was also for the episode 6 thread.
