House of the Dragon, an HBO prequel series to Game of Thrones

I’m still waiting for an explanation, which I know will never come, as to exactly who Ser Criston walked away from the wedding incident with a promotion.

Corlys Velaryon is not a dragon rider.

Yeah I was thinking of either his son or brother.

Dying and as high as a kite.

Neither his son, Laenor, nor his brother, Vaemond, are/were dragon riders.

Oh, very good point. I’d forgotten that part.

Laenor was definitely a dragon rider. Remember him taking out the archers in the battle against the Crabfeeder?

Laenor for sure did, they even named it: Seasmoke.

The whole dragon scene emphasized the bit from Game of Thrones: Power is Power.

Dragons are essentially the nuclear weapons of Westeros, and she was reminding them all of that. Not that she wanted to kill them all, but that she could, and all their armies and castles wouldn’t do shit to stop her.

So yeah, at some point, they’ll negotiate - and it will come down to who has the most dragons.

“I have friends in high places” is how 90% of “justice” works in Westeros.

Yeah, I don’t see why this needed any explanation other than the obvious “the queen thought he might come in handy at some point so she kept him around”.

Ah right. He could be a dragon rider because his mother is a Targaryen.

Both times he has done this, he got promoted. He even threatened his Lord Commander and no one blinked an eye. I hope Rhaenyra’s dragon eats him.

I’m curious how this feet thing got started. Did Larys just mention his fetish to Alicent in casual conversation one day? I think her prudish self-righteousness would have recoiled at that. But maybe he gave her other options for his “reward” that were even more appalling to her. I wonder what Criston would think if he found out about this, considering his statement to Aemond that every woman is the image of the mother and should be spoken of with reverence. Well, except Rhaenyra, of course.

It’s not complicated, he is useful. The queen kept him around because he is proof Rhaenyra slept around, removing lord Beesbury solved a serious problem the council would have had if he was left alive and the lord commander had made his position clear. He is not going to get in trouble for helping their side, it makes perfect sense.

All true. Not only for the Hightowers generally but especially for Alicent personally. Viserys was not the type of guy to force Alicent to get rid of him.

Larys masturbating to Alicent’s feet is one of the creepiest things I’ve seen in the franchise. I’m sure Alicent rationalized it as making a sacrifice for the sake of her children. I’m sure Ser Criston would accept that, immediately after killing Layrs.

Even more than the kids’ cage fighting? I couldn’t tell if Alicent was aware that he was doing it, or if he did it on the DL. I couldn’t figure out the purpose of showing the kids fighting besides White Worm’s desire to end it. And speaking of White Worm, I hope she’s not dead. I think she’s gorgeous and also love her accent.

Oh no, that was extremely deliberate on her part. The way she immediately started taking her socks off after he mentioned having information and turned her head away because she knew he was about to start whacking it definitely implied this has been their arrangement all along.

I agree with you. I think the kids fighting—and learning that some of them were Aegon’s own children—was really disturbing.

The Larys masturbation scene is two adults choosing to enter into a transaction, each for es own reason.

Oh, she totally knew. Her behavior and her turning way told me at least that she knew exactly what was going on.

Also to show what a degenerate scumbag Aegon is.

There has been inference that Larys is a warg, I guess that would give him opportunities to have a wank at feet inside a rat, but I suppose unlike a Window Wank, as the current king did, a Warg Wank might lose some concentration.

(Some of the theorists reckon Littlefinger was also a warg. Like dying in childbirth being a big indicator of Targ blood, being injured as a teenager/kid, potentially going into a coma, is perhaps an indicator of a warg. Littlefinger had a duel which did that with a Stark).

It’s pretty cool that the building that got trashed at the end of the episode was in ruins during the original show. It’s fun to have connections like that.
