How about a quiet ChiDope sometime?

There is no shortage of vodka in my house - just bring stuff to mix it with.

Sure! (Figuring that Super will stay at Beths) Hopefully, I won’t even be snoring by then

Probably not a bad assumption, but I’ll discuss it with her before confirming it.

I’d like to attend one of the quieter ones. Can’t make it this year at all because of work, but maybe something next Spring. A rowdy one for one group and a quieter one for the ones that aren’t so wild. Maybe a weekend deal with Saturday night being the night for the whole group. I’d have to fly up and I wouldn’t want to spoil the party so I’d say upfront that by looking at the pics I wouldn’t want to attend one of the rowdy ones. We might could get a bigger group if it’s planned far enough ahead of time for people to prepare and maybe get some vacation time.

I agree with ultress. I would love to attend a quieter ChiDope, but there is really no way I can attend the one you are all planning now for October. We should tentatively agree to schedule another one for May or early June. I may have actually caught up with my bills by then.

Feh, feh and triple feh. Can’t make this one, gang. I have agreed to be a date to a wedding in some state other than the one I occupy, plus I have LA the weekend after that and Ohio the weekend after THAT!
October is booked for me, is what I’m saying. <sigh> Guess I shoulda stuck my head in and chanted, “Late September. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaate September!” earlier. My bad. :frowning:

October 13, at this point, sounds ok. OTOH, I am not yet back on campus in Chicago, and so I have no idea how much coursework I’ll have piled up/ school-friend activities I’ll have planned. I also have no cooking facilities…wait, no, I’ll have a microwave. I’ll try to whip up something.
What I’m trying to say is that I’m a maybe. Tired tiggs don’t type well.

I will definitely be showing up late - I confirmed this weekend that I have a niecey/nephew birthday party to attend that afternoon in exciting Naperville, but I should be able to leave by around 5. I’ll stop home, walk the dog, grab the appetizers and the wine (and maybe the Stroh rum…) and be on my way.

Is 2:00 p.m. too early for most people? Especially since some of you will be driving in from out of town?

We could make it more of a late afternoon/early supper thing and then the party animals could go out and Lounge Against the Machine.

Howabout starting at 4:00 p.m. (have a few drinks, get set up, put hot food in the oven), eat around 5:00? Let me know if that works better or if you’d prefer the earlier time.

In other good news, The Boy, a.k.a. Pixellent, is likely to come into town that weekend and be my co-host. So screw directions, you’ll be able to navigate by the glow alone.

Well, once again, I will be Mr. Jarbaby-less, as he must perform THE CRUCIBLE that evening. but I will be there, with bells on…

and nothing else.

no I’m just kidding.

I won’t wear bells

Where is he doing “The Crucible?” Dagan is studying it this semester and Wife and I were discussing symbolism vs. allegory and maybe she’d like to see it where she doesn’t have to listen to us, meaning that renting the Winona Ryder version won’t count.

4:00PM sounds better for me.

The Crucible is at the Timeline Theatre, Wellington and Broadway here in Chicago. I think it runs October through Thanksgiving. THey do great productions there! Try to go see it.

I feel the need to point out that the position of “Co-Host” has a long and honorable tradition which is, in fact, derived from the Catholic ritual that celebrates the Miracle of Transubstantiation.

In this case, the Co-Host symbolizes the body of Ed McMahon.

Christ: This is my body. Take and eat of it.

Ed McMahon: Eat you? Boy-oh!

Ed McMahon (indicating a pair of large stone tablets):
I’ll bet that those tablets tell you… *everything you always wanted to know * about leading a holy life!

Moses: Wrong again, Gomorrah-breath!

Ed McMahon: HAW haw haw haw haw hawwwwww!

Good news (or bad, depending on how you look at these things), I will be able to attend after all. Wedding fell through, therefore that weekend is utterly open. I can cook anything, so just tell me what I should bring.
Are we still planning debauchery for Friday night? Is it girl night? Let me know these things or I have to plan them myself. You do NOT want this to happen. We’ll all end up dancing with circus clowns, drinking Red Bull martinis and waving tiki torches at 400a, all while having a contest to see who can recite Pi to the highest number.
It ain’t pretty.

Well, hell, girls night or not, I’m down with that!

shoot, do I have to bring my own clown?

Well, all I can say is that local dopers may want to keep September 22nd open, as I will be celebrating my birthday at a local tavern. Worlds will collide as I introduce SDMB friends to Theatre Friends and Husbands to Cyberlovers.

A crazy day it will be, my friends. Be not afraid when the moon turns to blood.

Email me for details.

Clowns are provided. However, if you want one of the GOOD tiki torches, you have to bribe me. Take that as you will.
