How about a St. Louis Dopefest next week?

I, the Wandering Doper who likes to meet other Dopers from lands near and far, will be in the St. Louis area next Thursday, December 5, and Friday, December 6th.

Open to lunch or dinner on either day, but need suggestions for a good restaurant.

I’m not sure about Thursday, but I can probably do late lunch or dinner on Friday.

Exciting! I’ve never done a Dopefest. I could do dinner either day.

Dinner on Friday the 6th sounds great. 6:00 PM?

Where would you suggest as an interesting place to meet?

I’ve only been to St. Louis once before driving through, and only stopped for the Arch. I will have a car, so don’t care where we go.

Dinner on Friday sounds great.

What kind of budget are we looking at? Anyone have a particular flavor of food they want to try?

Also: I’m on the central-west end, Olive/I-270, but have wheels so anywhere in the greater metro is no prob.

I do need to talk to my wife to confirm that I can go (there may be some event that I have forgotten about and neglected to write down), but if it would be possible to push it to 6:30 or 7, that would be better for me. I have a lesson to teach that is normally at 5 or 5:30.

As to where, whatever works for me. Fisha, since you’re the guest, if you have any ideas for types of food/restaurant, we can probably figure something out.

I was really confused by this until I realized that by “central-west end” you didn’t mean Central West End.

I’m on the Illinois side and my husband works downtown, so keeping it not too far west is best for me. Food-wise, pretty much anything is fine.

So… How do dope fests typically go? I don’t know much about the genre.

Any restaurant that’s unique to St.Louis is perfect. Not much of a drinker, but a beer or two would be nice to go with the meal.
630 or 700, not a problem.
Iftheresaway, we pick a place, time, someone makes a reservation in the name of Cecil Adams, show up, hang out, eat food, bs about life, the universe, and crazy dopers (not those present, obviously.)

Rarely do we have to post bail.

There are a number of places with good beer lists. Schlafly brewery runs two beer pubs, the Bottleworks and the Tap Room. If you like Mexican, Mission Taco is very good and also has a good beer and drink list, although not as St. Louis based (Schlafly is a St. Louis brewery).

I’ve got to run, but I’ll try to think of more places tonight.

Wish I could, but my work hours forbid. Have a great time, and if there’s ever another one I can make, I’ll do my best to be there.

Tigin Irish Pub in downtown St. Louis has great food and a good beer list.

Haven’t been to Tigin.

There are a bunch of places in the Loop and the Central West End, but not many of them really stick out as places that I would jump at to show a visitor. There are St. Louis “institutions” like Fitz’s and Blueberry Hill, but other than being institutions, there’s really not that much to recommend them. In addition to the aforementioned Mission Taco (really quite good) I also enjoy Three King’s Pub. I suppose Pi is always an option for pizza and beer, but it gets pricey fast.

Any favorites, iftheresaway?

Mission taco food looks really good, but Schafly has a band on Friday.

Maybe Mission Taco to start, and if everyone feels ambitious, we can head over to listen to the band. Not sure how close they are to each other, but we can play it by ear.

It appears that I will be staying right downtown.

Which Schlafly? There are two, and it looks like both have a band on Friday. Distance shouldn’t be a problem; St. Louis is really pretty small and traffic is rarely a real problem, especially outside of rush hour.

Fachwife is working that night, so I am certainly free. She may join us later, depending on how she feels and how long things go on. She’s a little weirded out by the whole Dope thing so who knows.

Mission Taco looks amazing! I haven’t tried it, but I’m drooling in anticipation. It looks like we settled on Friday; was 6:30 or 7:00 best for everyone else?

Either (6:30 or 7:00) works equally well for me.

Looks like 7 for me. My student can’t come early, so I’m busy until 6:30. Don’t let me stop the rest of you from meeting earlier, though.

I will make reservations for 630 @ Mission Taco.

So far I have

I’ll make the reservations on Wednesday, so if there is anyone else lurking out there, let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

It will probably be closer to 7pm for me (and my husband will be there too).
