How best could Episode VII piss off fans?

Dance off.

In this, though, I have to kind of agree with Doom’s otherwise snotty derision. Fans of an IP tend to assume anything in that IP is directed to them and only to them, which makes it irritating to try to make content for other demographics because of all the protesting.

True, but given how little Lucas cared about those same opinions, how do you think they will affect the actions of a media behemoth like Disney? They would be wise to cast a wide net to get as many eyeballs on their product as possible. Realize we’re no longer talking about a solitary SW film trickling out every 36 months, giving the disappointed fanboys years upon years to foster their rancor online. Disney has already proposed an accelerated schedule, so if they do what I suggested there’ll always be relatively fresh content to be savored by each of the target audiences, constantly encouraging their anticipation for the installments to come in their preferred genre.

I sincerely hope that Disney lets the 40-year-old basement dwellers influence the aforementioned “adult”* films, but I guarantee that they’ll never lose sight of the fact that the pre-teen audience buys the Ewok toys. (Or at least opens the blister packs and actually plays with them.)

This is one reason the prequels sucked – it was completely reasonable for Lucas to try to satisfy all of his audiences, but he only had three films to work with so couldn’t address them all separately the way they deserved. He tried to cram something for everyone into a small handful of films and satisfied almost no one.

This is where I think the fanboys’ influence will be greatest. Disney will consider that contingent’s disappointment as part of the bigger picture and ask how they themselves would have handled the prequels better. I only hope they arrive at the same conclusion I did.

Wow, that last sentence rang in my ears a bit. Could Disney be A New Hope?

speak for yourself :stuck_out_tongue:

They reveal that as wookies get older they start to shrink. In fact really old wookies are about the same size as ewoks. They have to find a new home for a stunted Chewie after the Endor Wookie Oldie Konurbation was destroyed by the explosion of the Death Star.

Updated

The actual movie came pretty close. Lots of “call backs” precious little new stuff.

So Lucas was spot on with his criticism then?

Yes. Except for the white slavery bit.
