Jiminy Cricket, why are gun owners so willing to swallow what the fear salesmen are selling?
Anyway, the ~30% or so that are in the cult actually want the cruelty toward people they don’t like. They may not admit or even realize it, but they want a dictator. For the administration of maliciousness tempered by incompetence, the maliciousness is desirable and the incompetence is either hidden by their news sources or outright ignored.
The incompetence is really the message that has a chance of making an impact. Pointing out the meanness, the childishness, the authoritarian desires won’t work because they are desirable qualities to that voter’s mindset.
You could look at it this way. Authoritarian governments don’t like having armed citizens. If Trump is re-elected and we head down that dictatorial path, what’s to stop him from taking your guns? Get him out of office now and work for sensible gun laws later.
But the SJW crowd deeply distrusts Joe “Most cops are good” Biden.
Also, when you have four years where your national supremo is a talks-like-a-dictator guy, you don’t just snap back to where you were before. Any Biden-Harris honeymoon will be brief because both right and left have been radicalized.
As for the idea that a Democratic congressional wave would lead to extreme legislation, this is unlikely. Democrats from normally Republican states and districts, if elected, will work to push their party to the center.
Now, if you think that any kind of universal heath care - even if we have lots of choice, as in Germany — is radical, you’ll disagree.
I was a Republican until early 2016 and could imagine one day being one again. So I don’t like the kind of personal criticism of you sometimes seen on this board. But I can’t be on the kind of team the GOP has become.
Vote for a Democrat. Gun sales dropped over 30% when Trump took office and some manufacturers had to lay off workers.
Also remember, Obama eliminated anti-gun regulations in national parks that were put in place by gun-grabbers Bush and Reagan.
Biden has explicitly said that he intends to ban assault weapons. The most popular rifle in America, the AR-15, falls into this category so I don’t see how anyone can truly in good faith say that “nobody’s coming for your guns.” Whether he is ACTUALLY GOING TO enact this ban is another story. It might not be possible, politically. But he does say he wants to do it.
Well, from what I am reading, he doesn’t propose to come and take them away – unless you can’t afford to pay what amounts to a one-time $200 tax on each one.
While I am for restricting sale of some of this general class of weapons, I don’t think it would be a good idea to take them out of the hands of living gun owners. Too dangerous for police! I do think it would be a good idea for executors to turn them in, consistent with this common meme.
As for what can pass, probably none of it, but manufacturing and import restrictions seem a good idea to me. Then, I don’t ever see myself wanting to buy one.
II think a better idea is to treat guns like cigarettes – more taxes at time of sale, and public health warning labels.
Yeah, it’s false. But it is true that black unemployment has dropped under Trump, from 7.7% when he was elected to 5.6% in January just before Covid hit. So if he had said that Trump presided over a reduction in black unemployment, which is at near historic lows, he’d be correct.
However… if you look at this chart from the Fed:
It’s clear that the trend of lower black unemployment is pretty much unchanged from the start of the Obama administration. So it’s not true that Trump has reduced it more than Obama. The reduction actually appears to have nothing to do with either President.
All the unemployment rates (women , hispanic, etc) look like that. The massive reduction in unemployment under both Obama and Trump have more to do with the fact that minorities were hit harder by the great recession in 2008, so they started out Obama’s first term at very high unemployment (almost 20% for some groups) and consequently the rate had a long way to fall to get back to ‘normal’.
At least you can say that Trump didn’t hurt black employment, and that it has continued to decrease under his watch as it did under Obama. At least until COVID came along.
Something I just remembered. Bump-stocks were approved under the Obama administration. Banned under Trump. Didn’t even go through proper channels, just a new regulation!!!
We’re going to take the firearms first and then go to court, because that’s another system. Because a lot of times by the time you go to court … it takes so long to go to court to get the due process procedures.
As long as we’re ignoring plausibility here, what Trump threatened regarding guns is worse than anything Biden suggested.
From what I can understand, your biggest problem as a gun dealership owner is keeping enough stock on hand.
Don’t worry about gun control. It’s dead. The riots and the move to defund the police have ensured that. Gun ownership is skyrocketing, and in surveys most of the buyers are first-time gun owners living in the cities. Support for gun control has dropped by 12% in six months, In June the FBI processed 3.9 million requests to purchase firearms. The National Rifle Association has seen the biggest boom in membership in its history over that time.
And, 27% of all gun owners purchased a gun in the last six months, and the majority were first time gun buyers.
I’ll bet you most of those people were anti-gun six months ago. Now they are NRA members. If civil unrest continues, it’s going to be hard to find someone who doesn’t own a gun.
Just one more of those pesky unintended consequences for people who think they can use force and intimidation to affect political change.
The other unintended consequences are capital flight from the big cities, which will hurt minorities the most, and a huge spike in crime, in primarily minority areas.
Way to help out, rioters. Keep it up and your next big success will be re-electing Trump.
Pro-Tip for rioters: Next time make sure the citizens are disarmed first before trying to start a revolution.
I don’t rule this out But, in my swing state, rioters, fortunately, have not been keeping it up. Stores were looted, about a half mile from me, for one day, with no fires and no injuries. Now all the window boards are down and everything is open (even though patronage is reduced due to COVID). Thankfully, it was fairly minor compared to the Philadelphia 1964 riots.
But he hasn’t. NATO countries remain on the same (really modest) track of increasing spending they were on before Trump was elected. Did you really think Trump changed this?
