How can I find non-orthodox scents for my room?

I enjoy all of the nature-based scents (vanilla, flowers, etc.) as much as any other guy, but some days I just want a nice masculine smell. Specifically, I want my room to smell of lovely pipe tobacco. Naturally, I don’t want to fill my room with the carcinogens from real smoke, so I have to find a substitute. Sadly, nowhere I’ve looked has anything that could help me out.

So, I turn to you. Also, if you think there are similar smells that might be pleasant, please let me know.

You can pop down to the local pipe shop and pick up a decent quantity of tobacco, put small quantities in either old clean socks or nylons, tie off the tops, and you’re got yourself home-made sachets. Place around the room and you’re set (and smoke free).

Apparently there is a market for such scents.

Cook a ham.

I think this one will fly better in MPSIMS.

Out of curiosity, would there be any danger in tying a couple wads of pipe tobacco into my heat vent to aid in its spread? I’m a ways from the furnace, so sparks or overheating aren’t really issues. I’ve used bounce sheets like that before, with no firey deaths resulting.

hach sameach!

Well, I would suggest incense. That’s the most obvious. Huge selection of fragrances…get the good stuff, makes a difference.

Yeah, that was my first instinct, too, but I (strangely) gave up hope after being unable to find it in town. I’ll see what the Internet has to offer.

Thanks, everyone!

See my link above. You can use the scented fragrance oil to make your own scented candles, incense, soap or sachets. You can probably even use it in a scented oil warmer, like Glade Plugins.

Demeter makes some really great and unusual scents.
The link is to their Room Spray collection. Scroll down to the Ps for “Pipe Tobacco.”

Demeters fragrances are very, very short-lived. Be warned.

I second the incense suggestion.

Well, I’m failing at finding actual tobacco incense. It’s strange, but either (a) there isn’t any online or (b) my Google-fu is weak.

I know Kismet Potions carries tobacco essential oil, but I believe it’s pretty expensive and is special order only (it’s not on the website, but if you call, they’ll tell you more.) You can also do a phone order and they’ll mix up a custom blend for you - which can be more affordable. Instead of a single, very expensive oil, you can get a blend with some cheaper and some expensive oils. Sandlewood, pine and tobacco would be astounding, and very, very manly. You can tell them the sorts of things you like, and they’ll make suggestions for you.

Aww, but the Orthodox have the best incense. Seriously, check out some of the many online Orthodox stores selling Athonite-style incense. I’m partial to that made by Holy Cross Hermitage. Athonite-style always has a frankincense base, but beyond that, it can be scented with anything from rose and other flowers, to things like pine, sage, cassia, and ambergris.

Or you could take up pipe smoking. It’s not that bad for you.

More than once while in dollar stores, I’ve seen the cheapo incense rack carrying a fragrance called “Pussy”. There’s a picture of a cat on the front, but somehow I don’t think it smells like cats (at least I hope not. Not that smelling like the other sort of pussy is any less scary).

The Dirt and the Mesquite are really, really strange. The Dirt smells exactly like dirt.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The reason behind all of this is my attempts to turn my room back a few decades, with wooden furniture, candles (as can be seen in another thread I posted a week or so ago), and different scents. I want to have a nice study in which to retire each night and enjoy my alone-time.

Here is a link to a perfume site.

Some of their scents have tobacco notes. These are perfume oils which are mainly used on the skin, but they can be used as room scents as well - some people add a couple of drops to wax tarts.

There’s a search engine on the site where you can search by note, and a message board full of extensive reviews, as well, in case you’re curious!

My only caution is that they have really long ship times. The site says an excess of 21 - 45 days, and it does not lie.
