How Come I Can't Find Any 36/29 Pants?

It doesn’t matter what store I go to (Kohls, Target, Syms, whatever), I can never find any 36/29 pants! And actually, it’s very rare to find any %/29 length pants at all!

Are there really so few people in the world who wear %/29 length pants, to justify major clothing stores virtually not carrying them at all?

Hell, I’m not even that short, really: 5’ 8". I take it other people who are ~ 5’ 8" or shorter have the same problem?! It seems like the market for pants, for people who are 5’ 8" or shorter, would be substantial. Why don’t these stores carry this stock?

I know, I know, it’s not a huge deal, really. All you have to do is get the pants hemmed, but just once I would love to be able to walk into a store and buy some damn pants that fit me off the rack!

When I was in high school I wore 29/36 pants.

For a while I needed 38/36 pants and stores didn’t carry them, except for online. I felt that the stores didn’t want a person as fat and ugly as me in the store

I’ve noticed that odd number waist/inseam sizes are hard to find in general. I also only ever inseams that start at 30 and move up, although at 5’9" I wear 30/32 so I’m okay.

You can find inseams at 29", Levis and Dockers are particularly good for that.

Those are the two brands that I look for in particular and I can NEVER find 36/29. And this would be at virtually all of the big name stores. If I’m lucky, I’ll find a 32/29, or maybe a 34/29, but never a 36/29.

36 is not that wide. 29 is not that short. Why can’t I find the two together??

I don’t know why not, but I’ve found them at Filene’s and Sears, up to 29/40. Not every style, but enough of them.

Isn’t Land’s End the place that will make them to size (for about the same price as off-the-rack) and then they keep you on file so you can order new ones at the drop of a hat?

Dunno, but if there’s anything that’s rarer than 36/29 pants, it’s 32/29. One would * think * that the buyers of clothes would reason: “Hmmm. Short inseam. Therefore, a fairly small person. Let’s stock up on the smaller waist sizes.” But one would be wrong. For some reason, the wider the waist, the more common the shorter inseam seems to be.

Hah! You think that’s bad?
I’m 54-56 by 29.
Even at the big and porky stores I go to, 5X by 29 is impossible to find.
Look, folks, I’m a Big n Fatty Man’s Clothes. Being broad and 5’9" is not unusual in here.

Preach it! I wear a 38/29. Short and wide just isn’t a well-provided-for demographic, it seems. But by searching online, my wife found several places that can provide my pants. I’ll ask her and see if she remembers the urls.

I hear ya; I’m 33 x 31 and I have never found a pair in that size. I can’t wait until I’m filthy rich and can afford nothing but tailor-made clothing. Out of velour. Purple velour. Oooooooh.

All the odd-sized inseams seem to end up in the UK.
I have to stock up on 30 inch inseams when I visit the good-old USA.

36x27 checking in. I haven’t worn off-the-rack pants since I was 14.

Best part? I have really short legs. From the waist up I match with someone about 6 feet tall. But I’m 5’5"

I’m a freak.

We had a hard time finding suit pants to fit Mr. Clawbane a week back. He needed 32/34s. We only had one day to find them, we found out Thursday evening that his grandfather’s funeral was Saturday, he had the honor of being a pall bearer. Finding jeans in his size isn’t too hard, though. His size seems to be in some demand at least.

We should splice you with my roommie. He’s your opposite - 5’7, his legs fit someone 5’11, his torso is just short (with broad shoulders). Splicing the two of you will yield one regular 6’ person and one shortie…

From what I’ve seen here stores don’t carry odd inseam lengths.

Yeah, %/30 is the end of the road at most places. WHY??? How many millions of people wear %/29 or %/28 or %/27?

WTF

48x29 here. I don’t even bother looking at pre-hemmed trousers anymore, and just get everything tailored to fit when I buy it.

And I’m not short, either! (5’ 11"). I just have a very long (and wide, alas) torso, and very short legs.

Word. Wordy McWord word.

I can never find that size. And the only reason I need them is because when I buy my real size- 32/30- I end up standing on the bottom of the pant legs. The reason, of course, is the popularity of the ‘droopy-drawer’ look which seems to have taken over even the most conservative men’s slacks. If the damn crotch was where it is supposed to be, instead of half way between my knees and my stones, I wouldn’t be having this problem. But to compensate, I look for a shorter leg length, and frustration ensues.

To all us guys having trouble finding pants that fit, I recommend LL Bean. I’m 44 or 46×34 and have started buying all my pants from them.
