In her defense, she’s young, rich, and used to people giving her special treatment. When I was that age, I probably would have believed almost anything my parents told me, and from the sound of it she isn’t the type to ask questions or think much.
Who are these people? From what I’m getting from the OP, we have a “social media influencer” and someone in some sort of sport… Neither one of those looks like a Cafe Society topic.
As I understand it, the kid was listed as a member of the team but never actually did anything to join it. And the photos of her (or another kid whose parents paid) supposedly playing a sport were photoshopped.
I think it’s possible for the kid not to have known what was done on their behalf.
Olivia Jade has a YouTube channel with (according to quick Google) 1.95 million subscribers. She’s basically a screen celebrity. Granted, it looks like her last uploaded video was four months ago (I guess due to this debacle).
Did she join the unspecified sports team? I haven’t been following this in any great detail, but it certainly strikes me a possible to be admitted as a “recruit” on paper without ever interacting with the team before or afterwards. I assume she didn’t have some sort of athletic scholarship.
With the privileged personality they both exhibit? I find it quite likely. I’m sure they knew mom and dad did something to try and help them get in, but I could easily see them not knowing exactly what. And it would be better for them if they didn’t know, so I wouldn’t expect their parents to come out and tell them.
I mean, it’s not like either was all that interested in college. They were just going along because their parents wanted them to. It’s not like one of them told their parents they needed to get in and find any way possible, legal or not.

But at some point, she had to fill out applications to get on the rowing teams 2nd or 3rd string (insuring shed never have to participate in the sport) …So to me, it sounds like her indignation at losing several od her sponsorships is manufactured … or she’s a patsy

You’re at least 20 years to late to be asking that question. Even before Paris Hilton there were people who were famous for no reason other than being famous.
Same bullshit the Kardashians and celebrities on twitter do. Provide a parasocial experience to make you feel like you’re part of their clique so that you buy their merchandise.
The word that us mere mortals use, “spoiled”, doesn’t begin to describe her lifestyle. Using “spoiled” implies there is a baseline life of being not-spoiled, which is what most people experience. But for kids like her, the baseline is so far above what we would term spoiled, that the word loses meaning.
You think she had to fill out paperwork? Really? There are people who take care of that. You think she even knows that normal people have to fill out paperwork? Probably not, why would she know that? And on and on.
That’s assuming facts not in evidence. I see no reason why they couldn’t have had the forms filled out for her. In fact I’d be willing to bet that’s exactly what they did, because it was what they were paying that guy to do. Even if she had to sign them a simple request like, “hey honey we need a signature for one of the USC application forms,” could do the job. A lot of 18-year olds would then sign on the dotted line and never even glance at what they were signing.
Which isn’t to say I fully believe she is a complete innocent in this. But she could be, so absent any info to the contrary I’m inclined to give her a pass. I’m not impressed with what I’ve read about her, but that needn’t imply she was in anyway dishonest herself. At least about this.
Now in the cases of some of the other kids, all that was done was stuff like manipulating test scores and we have taped/transcripted evidence that some parents quite deliberately kept their kids in the dark. One poor kid was actually given a copy of the ACT to take at home in what he thought was a home exam. It was not - his parents actually took active steps to deceive him( “for his own good” of course ).
Others were in on it. But Loughlin’s kid in particular? Unclear.
I think Lori did everything/handled everything for her kids. I think she read them test questions before school like they were actors and she was running lines. I think she tried to move heaven and earth for kids who were low-motivation except for Dick and Pot.
I feel badly for her… until I realize that we ate canned beans and hotdogs to pay for a good HS, we took turns spelling our kids every night and on the drive too school on days when there were tests. Except that we supported our kids through honors and high honors classes, got them into volunteer programs where they could work at what they loved ( CS and Robotics ) while teaching other kids. We drove them to/from and brought water and snacks.
I feel badly for her except when we brought our first 4.0 GPA kid to College Admissions for interviews and got “The Speech”.
“I’ve got 300 files on this desk for just two spots and guess what? MAGICALLY they ALL have 4.0 GPAs. Tell me again just Why I should use one of those spots on your white male kid and not someone more deserving?”
He Still got into a Great school. A Different school. But Fuck Lori Loughlin with an Evil Dead Branch for being one of the cheaters who screwed Honest students and Honest parents over.
It’s entirely possible that she knew exactly what was going on, every step of the way. In that case, their lawyer may have advised Lori to say she did it on her own without Olivia’s knowledge and, likewise, told Olivia to play dumb.
Since I doubt the judge is thinking ‘either the two of you go to jail for 3 years or one of you goes for 6 years’ it would make more sense for Lori to take the fall, leaving Olivia to just do some damage control.
Look at it this way. If I steal a car and give it to my kid and she gets caught with it, there’s no reason for her to admit she knew it was stolen. It wouldn’t lessen my punishment, it would only add to hers.
I’m not saying that’s what happened, just that you shouldn’t assume Olivia was in the dark about all of this.

My mother had a period of trying to set me up with other women who were from “my hometown” (i.e. from where she lives, a place where I’ve never felt at home), daughters of widowed mothers and whom she considered socially acceptable. One of them voted socialist because “they are the people’s party and I’m very people!”, received income from three inherited rented-out flats in college towns (she’d occupied one of them by herself while in college, of course with a cleaner-cook who she had never met, as the servant went in when she was in class and was chosen and managed by her grandmother), had never worked a day in her life, used to sell crop insurance but had somehow not sold a single policy in the two years since her father retired from the local Agricultural Board and couldn’t figure out why (and yes, when I asked, she confirmed that she’d never called up someone to try and sell them a policy: they called her). There’s people who go through life surrounded by a pink cotton cloud, and boy does it hurt if and when that cloud ever goes poof.
