How do I contact my long-lost niece?

+1

Also…
I admit I have social blind spots… so I guess connecting (or trying to connect) by Facebook would be a completely stupid and insensitive thing to do?

Contact should be by post, not electronic.
Include family photos.

UPDATE: My sister and I finally wrote a letter/message and sent it to her, and she responded somewhat favorably to it! The impetus for this, what finally pushed us to do it, is that my mother has a very short time left and we hoped they would be able to speak to each other before Mom died.

My sister is putting something together right now. Maybe all we get is the chance for my mother to say hello and goodbye, but that’s enough for the moment. It may be that the only reason for the response was because Mom is dying. We’ll see.

I’m hopeful for more than that, but we will take it as it comes. Any pressure can kill the whole thing just like that, so I’m letting my sister take the lead to make sure I don’t screw it up.

But still, she responded! Amazing.

Congratulations.

Hope your big sister doesn’t find out and drops a big turd on the thing.

If I have my way she will be the very last to know. That way she can’t sabotage it. Once we are on some sort of firm footing we will let that potential train wreck take its own course, with us uninvolved on the sidelines.

The further we can get from my older sister the better. That way when she screws up it will only hurt her and not us.

Well, good news. And good luck.

Happy to hear! Congrats, you’re off to an auspicious start !

Be patient and be authentically who you are and you’ll do just fine.

I’m truly glad for you all!

That is a great start! Thanks for updating and fingers crossed it all goes well.

I was about to suggest a letter before I saw the update. My long lost father made contact (after 47 years, long story) by sending me a letter, with his phone numbers. That gave me time to read it, freak out a bit, and then calm down before calling him. That was in 2011, we have a good relationship now.

That’s a very encouraging start! Hope it continues well!
