How do you feel about expensive adopt-a-family requests?

You said it’s in bad taste because it isn’t how you want to spend your charitable money. But you can assess it and spend your money where you like. No one is forcing you to do anything. So why is someone else having a different preference “bad taste”? How does it actually impact you at all, other than giving you a reason not to give? If they already have their basic needs met but don’t ask for a luxury item you may inadvertently give to the not-as-needy. Since you don’t want that, you should be in favor of people asking for luxury items so you don’t risk that fate.

I didn’t say “It is in bad taste.” I said “I think it is in bad taste”. The former being some absolute statement of truth and the latter being just my opinion.

And why I think it is in bad taste is because those families asking for x-boxes and leather coats should especially realize there are people who need charity just to stay alive. Poor people are closer to that line. There’s only a limited amount of charity dollars out there. If you want to buy them an xbox, that is your choice. I prefer to give to people who are living in their car and eating garbage to survive.
