How do you know it's love?

[QUOTE=mhairi2222]
In my brief experience in this wee planet, I’m pretty positive I still have to have the pleasure of falling in love.

My question is, how do you know it’s love?

Well, you WILL just know.

That said, the reason you’ll just know is because it’s a palpable thing, both physical and mental. It’s not something that requires analysis on your part to figure out; it is a physical sensation, distinct from anything else.

You think about the person so much it’s distracting. You see them everywhere. You want them to be happy not because it benefits you that they be happy, but solely for them to be happy. In that regard, it’s the beginning of true empathy.

I’ve never had a girlfriend before so I could just be talking out of my ass, but Love is when you cry when you realize the she’s had a serious boyfriend for 10 years and she wants to settle down with him. And she wasn’t sending you signals that she likes you for the three years that that you’ve known her. And you will never get to be the one she loves.

That’s more like infatuation. Serious, self-destructive infatuation.

We’ve all been there, I think.

What tdn just said. Love requires two people.

I’m in infatuation mode at the moment and we haven’t even dated yet. I’m fairly certain she wants me to ask her out but the inner wimp in me is winning so far. As I mentioned in another thread I just feel she is way out of my league looks wise but she shows way more interests then is necessary to just being nice to a customer.
Love is so difficult to quantify. You just seem to wake one day and realize that yes, I love this person and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I wish I could describe it better but alas.

You’re probably right. It’s hard to not feel like an idiot when you realize that you’ve fundamentally misunderstood her feelings. It’s a good I was such such a coward about asking her out, otherwise I would have humiliated myself. :frowning:

I can’t tell you, but it lasts forever. It’s just something you feel together. When it’s love, yeah, yeah.
