My second grade son needs to ask ten people how they like to eat apples for a math class. It’s a little to late tonight to call friends, so I was wondering if any Dopers want to chip in on this one.
So, do you like to eat:[ol][li]Whole apples[]Apple slices, or[]applesauce.[/ol]The first ten serious replies get “published.”[/li]*Yes, this is helping with someone’s homework, but it’s not like we’re asking someone to write a term paper or sumptin’.
Ok, so an arbitrary sampling (n=10) of the smartest people in the world shows that:
– Four like whole apples (six, but we need to keep the sample size to ten)
– Four (five) like slices, and
– Two like applesauce (including cornflakes Jr. and myself.)
Sorry, gardentraveler, **Oakminster ** and Anaamika. He needed discrete intervals, and there was no room for alternatives. Personally, I like my apples diced small and tossed into salads or in tuna salad with celery and pecans, but that wouldn’t have made the cut either.
I’m too late to contribute, I guess, but I like to do the following:
Sit back in my chair, apple in left hand, small pocket knife in the right, and slice off pieces that I eat slowly and with great gusto. Maybe with an occasional piece of cheddar.
I vote Peeled… Apple skins get stuck in my teeth and it takes all day to get them out. Same with corn, but thats off topic… Whole or slices, it makes no difference which tool does the eventual cutting (my teeth or my knife).
Applesauce is a whole 'nother animal. Some say boil them and puree them, like mashed potatoes. I say, saute them to get some caramelization, deglaze with some calvados, and simmer in apple cider with some hard spices (cinnamon, star anise, black pepper), then puree. Damn good, lemme tell ya.
