The subject came up at the recent Dallas Doper Debauch. Opinions were divided between saying it “mip-sims” and “M.P. Sims,” like someone’s name. I favor the second pronunciation, but the rest of the table decreed that saying it that way sounded too much like a department store (“I love that sweater!” “Thanks…I bought it for half price at M.P. Sims!”).
So how do YOU say it? Mip-sims? M.P. Sims? Empuh-sims? Em-possums? Here’s your chance to weigh in. When people stop posting, I’ll eventually tally the answers and post the results.
Usually, I don’t say it. It’s just that string of letters. However, I noticed that when I went to the Houston gathering, I pronounced it “M.P. Sims”.
That’s still not how i think of it, but it’ll do for a pronounciation.
I intentionally don’t pronounce things that only have a context for me online. If I tell someone about this site in general it’s just “straight dope” not SDMB or anything like that. I once caught myself about to say “re” when I walked back into a room full of real people. Decided there is a barrier between cyber and real which no man should cross.

M.P. Sims here. Funny, I had this discussion with MoosieGirl over ICQ the other night. She doesn’t even pronounce it, she spells it: M.P.S.I.M.S. But hey, she’s a French Canuck. Bless the girl for being able to READ all this
