After all these years I still think he is guilty as sin.
I’m just wondering, was OJ very rich at the time of his wife’s death? It just seems that his defense cost millions and then his civil suit was in the millions. Not to mention the cost for his legal troubles not related to the murder trial. How can he afford to live?
I don’t see him writing a book or doing interviews, etc… so how could he be getting by financially?
If you believe he is guilty how do you think he is keeping the murder under wraps without spilling the beans to “somebody?”
I was watching on t.v. and apparently he has some sort of retirement investment plan thing that pays him about 25,000 a month so he can still afford to live quite nicely and the program said that the courts cant take any of that money from him or something. Im not sure exactly what it was, I saw it a while ago
What are you talking about? He kept his promise he did he did. He got up the day after he got out, saying to himself “Got to find the real killer.” Went down the hall and took a left into the bathroom since he needed a shave. OJ then took a look in the mirror and then said “Gee, that was easy. Time to play golf.”
It’s his pension from the NFL. Pensions are exempt from civil judgments. In the state of Florida, primary residences are also exempt. That’s why he bought a huge place out there.
He’s probably fine financially speaking, or at least compared to most folks.
I truly wonder about his mental state though. From all appearances he loved fame and adulation. He’s free but he sure lost that. And I really, really wonder about his relationship with his kids. They’re growing older now. The teen years are rough enough anyway. I just wonder how he’s handling their evolving adult viewpoint about their mother’s murder.
Most of all I wonder how he copes with moments of deep night introspection.
All I know is, he lives about 15 minutes away from me, in Pinecrest, a nice part of suburban Miami, right near my old high school. Apparently we go to some of the same restaurants like Shorty’s BBQ (a Miami landmark), but I’ve never had an “O.J. sighting.”
Haj is right about his pension and in all the particulars, save one - the pension is a $4 million dollar pension he set up when he was king of Hertz and Naked gun --it is ** not** his NFL pension. I understand how the confusion crept in: I have seen that $25000 p/month figure flapped around before as his NFL pension – including Catherine Crier on Court TV. Here’s a cite. http://www.cnn.com/US/9906/11/simpson.anniversary/#1
Here comes the science …
Intuitively we know that cannot $25,000 p/month from the NFL possibly be right. The highest NFL pension ever will be paid to Darrel Green who retired last year after playing 20 years in the NFL. Once he gets to 55 he can expect a monthly pension payment of $5,805.
An NFLPlayer who who is on permanent disability benefit for various NFL injuries, receives $110,000 a year for the rest of his life. This standard benefit is paid to players 12 years out of the league, or younger than 45, whichever is the later.
A non-disabled player like OJ, retiring in 1979, would pull about $200 for each season played. In OJ’s case that is about $2000 per month max (he played 10 seasons) + free health insurance.
I love how the NFL is finally taking care of the guys who paved the way & don’t want anyone down on it because of a jackass like OJ …
The “Girls of the Big Ten” issue of Playboy that was out recently (must have been September or October) featured an interview with him, if anyone besides me actually reads Playboy for the articles.
He gets by all right, due to the funds coming in that other people have mentioned, but I think he said that he had to sell a lot of his stuff after the murder trial. His daughter called the cops earlier this year during an argument they had and asked something to the effect of, “If your dad says you’re a bitch, is that child abuse?”.
The Juice has traded his Knife for a Propellor and has been
cited for Speeding in a Manatee Sanctuary. I guess he’s taking
out his rage on those beloved Florida Sea Cows.
I think a lot of pro athletes have such huge egos (including OJ), that the feeling of being smitten by a lover is far harder to deal with than the fact she is dead now. So he probably thinks about her being murdered, then overrules that thought with the fact she shunned him. IMHO.
I think he makes some money gambling on the golf course. And he does get dates. Some people will do anything to rub shoulders (and whatever) with the idol rich and famous.
