OJ to discuss hypothetical account of murders in interview

Wow.

That almost reads like an article from The Onion.

-FrL-

There was a pit thread about this some time ago.

Here’s a promo from the Fox website.

I don’t know if I should watch this or not. I don’t want to support him and I wouldn’t buy his book, but his TV interview…

Is this a fuckin’ joke? I mean, Chris Rock did actually make a joke once about OJ’s fictional self help tape “I didn’t kill my wife but if I did heres how I’d do it”, but this…this is sick.

Even if OJ is innocent (and I don’t actually believe that he is) this is a despicable thing to do, especially since the families of the murdered are probably still hurting emotionally. Fox Network must be out of their minds. Ratings can’t that important, can they?

Well, according to all the popular fiction, allowing crap like this to come to pass is the price we must pay to not have jackbooted gestapo agents busting down doors in the middle of the night to execute people for jaywalking.

“…”

Yeah.

Could we just have a few jackbooted thugs? Just a couple? Pleeeeease?

The worst part is, even if he’s not being paid for the interview, he will be for the book.

Well, I heard it was the price we pay to have freedom of speech. Some guy told me that.

I saw a promo for this last night, and for just a second thought it was a piece of satire. Really, is there a bar too low for Fox? (And is this something that a mentally normal, innocent man would ever conceivably agree to?)

Rule One: Is it profitable?

Rule Two: See Rule One.

Oh, sir, you get me all wrong. I’m not miffed that he’s speaking about it, or that it’s allowed to air. I’m just slightly ticked that he’s still around to do it, as a free man no less, at all.

According to NBC Nightly News tonight, NBC turned down the interview, and Fox picked it up… Guess that makes them more “noble” than Fox… uh…yeah, sure.

Not that I’m advocating this or anything, but I’m thoroughly surprised that Nicole and Ron’s families haven’t hired any assasins to deal with OJ. The actual murder is one thing and maybe debatable, but that OJ has gone on to profit so deliberately and sleazily from it… this would convince me (if I were a family member of the victims) that 1) he’s guilty 2) he’s not the least bit contrite 3) he’s deliberately mocking us by using this to make money.

My qualms would be quashed and I’d send in the heavy hitters. I applaud the families’ restraint.

Maybe the bastard’ll make enough money to start paying the victims’ families some of the 33 million dollars he owes them.

Of course, were he to hire a hit-man, Fred Goldman would be caught, tried, and convicted of 1st-degree murder.

I never really understood the irony of rain on one’s wedding day, so this would make a good vignette for Ms. Morrisette…

Deos anyone know the facts regarding his obligation to pay that judgment? I would assume that if you owe $33 million dollars from a civil judgment, the court takes whatever millions you make from a book (whether it concerns the same case or not) and hands it over to the other party.

But I haven’t seen any mention of the Goldmans getting the money from this endeavor. Do they have to make a claim for it and pursue that in court?

On “Law and Order” et. al., the detectives and prosecuters always talk about how the criminals have the strong desire to confess.

According to this article, the families could go after the book sale money (and if there’s any justice in the world, no one will buy the book) but

They will never see one thin dime. Ever.

I dream of a world in which the publisher would say, “Yeah, you amoral murdering jackass, we’ll publish your confession. But only if we can make all your royalty checks payable directly to the Goldman family.”

If he gets to keep a penny from this project, it just proves that Simpson’s purpose in life is to show us all the faults in our court system.

I know you are going to jump all over me, but I read an article when the book was first announced with OJ saying he’ll “spend the money really fast” so none of it goes to the Goldman family.

I just can’t help but think what about his kids?

[Mrs. Lovejoy] Won’t somebody please think of the children?[/Mrs. Lovejoy]

Course they’re so high profile they’d be immediate suspects and, as mention, quickly found guilty. But I’ve often pondered just how surprising someone else, just an average nutjob, hasn’t whacked him yet. These murders were so sensational and pissed so many people off. I really do marvel that OJ’s still alive. Of course just trying to track him down, as mobile as he apparently is, would be a daunting task.

Considering they’re both over 18, I’m not particularly concerned about that.
