Question for the mods:
As in the thread title: how does one report a problem that’s not evident so much in one specific post that appears clearly out of line, but in an accumulation of posts through a particular thread? And what if the pattern involves multiple threads, or even becomes apparent because of the number of threads?
As a GD mod, I love these sorts of reports. Often a report will come in stating that poster X is a dick because he’s always a dick everywhere (or something similar arguing a pattern) but rarely does the poster include the evidence. It can be a royal pain in the ass to try to capture, especially if it runs between multiple fora.
So a Report that both details what the reporter thinks the problem is, how it impacts the board, and links to instances of that problem in different locales is gold to me. I appreciate them muchly for making the job easier.
So, speaking for myself here, make your report
- State what you believe the problem is and its negative impact on the boards.
- State how widespread it is
- Include links to posts and incidents where the problem has caused disruption.
I can use that to determine is a poster actually is misbehaving intentionally. It’s a lot easier than trying to check all of a poster’s history to try and figure out what someone’s talking about.
As for how to report it, either report one of the posts with a clear explanation that you are reporting the pattern and not the specific post, or send the moderators of the affected forums a PM.
And, as Jonathan Chance said, the more information you include, the better.
Thanks, both of you.
I’ll try to assemble something in the form Jonathan Chance is requesting. Doing other things of course also right now, so it probably won’t be immediate.
I don’t think it’s even a matter of just one poster; though one is rather standing out at the moment.
Somebody is getting in the habit of starting threads with an ambiguous sentence and a link. Clicked on 2 just today. Annoying, but I can’t get worked up enough to report. I just hit the back button and delete it from my mind.
