How far do you live from your birthplace?(poll)

251.45 miles.

Susan

You and me both, pal. For all practical purposes, the 5.64 mile drive from my home to my birthplace is a 20 minute drive.

You mean some people had to go back and do it again?

So now, a fun little puzzle for you Dopers. You all know my current location, since it’s visible up in the corner there. So what I’m going to do is give you the distance from my birthplace and from my current place of residence for various locations in which I’ve lived since I was born. You have to name the places - town and state for inside the US, city and country for outside the US.

Distance from birthplace to current residence: 425.2 miles

Distances (birthplace first, current residence second)

The town I grew up in: 68 miles, 457 miles
The town I lived in after high school: 3823 miles, 3630 miles
The town I first went to college in: 1098 miles, 906 miles
The second town I went to college in: 428 miles, 3 miles
The city I stayed in while at college: 4119 miles, 4475 miles

The hospital where I was born is now a Mental Health Center. Suddenly, my life makes sense.

110.3 miles (Birmingham to Montgomery)

Currently, I live in Woodland Hills, CA, and was born in Oklahoma City, which means I am 1,346 miles away from my place of birth.

Born in the old Women & Infants in Providence, RI. Raised in Cumberland, RI.

Currently reside in Providence, RI, about 3-5 miles from the hospital I was born in. Most of my life (save for college/a short move to CA) I’ve lived within 7-10 miles of where I was born.

This is Rhode Island though, where there are people who have probably never ever left the state. It’s a very small place.

From Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio (assuming it’s the same location as it was in nineteen-ahem) to my address in Seattle: 2427.82 miles.

I’m in northern CA and grew up in upstate NY.

Mapquest says I’m 2942.36 miles from where I was born.

According to Yahoo Maps, I live exactly 8.0 miles from the hospital where I was born.

However, in a strange quirk of fate, I work only 1.2 miles from that hospital.

Phoenix to the Lou is 1267 miles.

Seems like forever away some days. sigh

Feels like I’ll never catch another Cardinals game again.

46 miles now. The furthest I’ve ever lived from my actual birthplace is 52 miles.

According to Mapquest:

Total Est. Distance: 35.27 miles

The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree, or something.

From the hospital in Denver to my house its 1266.26 miles.

5103 miles.

6036 miles, that would be 5907 as the crow flies then 129 as the Italian drives.

So far I win the distance award: From my birthplace (Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India) to where I live now (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA), 9,581 miles or 15,417 kilometers.

Mapquest tells me I’d take about six hours to drive 374.37 miles to my birthplace, which is Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

300 miles from Geneva, NY to Haverhill, MA

Mapquest doesn’t cover my part of the world, but for what it’s worth, I can walk to the site of the hospital where I was born in just about 40 minutes, so call it 2.5 miles or so, it’d be less if they demolished a housing estate or two.

I work within a mile of the place.

The hospital in which I was born no longer has an OB area. The floor that held the defunct OB unit became a locked down unit for the metally unstable. I share your epiphany.
It has since been renovated and is now vacant. The hospital is 9.45 miles from my current home.
