How far do you live from your birthplace?(poll)

About 500 miles. Still in the same state, though.

299.37 miles (5 hours 11 minutes) from my current address in Kansas City MO to the only hospital address I could find in Greensburg KS. Not sure it’s the exact one where I was born.

According to Mapquest, my house is 10.41 miles away from the hospital where I was born.

6.63 miles

Using this nifty site, the distance between where I was born - Castro Valley, California, United States - and where I live now - Nottingham, England, United Kingdom - is as the crow flies: 5258 miles (8462 km) (4569 nautical miles) apart.

Initial heading from Castro Valley to Nottingham: north-northeast (32.2 degrees)
Initial heading from Nottingham to Castro Valley: northwest (315.6 degrees)

However, I think the fly miles are more…

OK, time for a fresh update:

since this is IMHO (thanks, CajunMan!), I reserve the right to rank false god’s answer below the others for the following reasons:

  1. I have no way of knowing what kind of measurement was used by each poster. For all I know, the other long-distance posters used nautical miles and just didn’t say.

  2. This thread is in IMHO and I am the OP. Feel free to compile your own statistical analysis of the posts herein.

  3. Oops, gotta go. My TV show is starting!

I live 10685 km from my home. Beijing to Wayne, MI.

According to Mapquest, it’s 595 miles and 9 hours, 53 minutes from here to the hospital where I was born. I’m happy calling it 600 miles and 10 hours (unless I take the route they suggest–with all the wrecks and construction on 40, it tends to turn into 11 or 12 hours.)

I am 3075 miles from my birthplace in Brookings, S. Dak.

Well, I checked my math again and came up with the following:

9426 miles (15169 km) (8191 nautical miles)

Initial heading from San Clemente to Colombo:
north-northwest (334.6 degrees)
Initial heading from Colombo to San Clemente:
north-northeast (21.2 degrees)

San Clemente, California, US

County: Orange County

Population (1990): 41100
Elevation: 160 feet

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Location: 6:58:00N 79:52:00E

From St Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland to Lexington, KY: 341.7 miles.

But most of adulthood was at least 1000 miles further away.

Born in Boston, living in Tokyo.

6710 miles, 10798 km

Twelve parsecs.

Or, from where I first landed on your planet to where I am now, 475 miles.

;j

And my wife would like to weigh in with 9,720 from Pensacola, FL, to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Added to my 9,426, I think we win, folks.

I live 1300 miles (give or take a few) from my birthplace.

:::YAY!! 400th post… shutting up now:::

Leiden - Pittsburgh 3883 Mi.

55 miles or there abouts.

I had to calculate it to the town since the hospital hasn’t existed for more than 20 years, and I have no idea what part of town it was in. I find it odd, however, that the farthest I’ve lived from that town was while living in the same state as the former hospital.

About 300 kilometres.
