How has Former President Trump pissed you off today?

The vast majority of Irish Americans, Italian Americans, and Trump’s family too can tell you how much better they can do.

Of course when stupid points are attempted to be passed as wisdom the failure is first with the ones making them on the sources of information you are using. You need to unfriend some “friends” and seek better sources of information.

…and to any student of history, this sort of country-based bigotry is boringly familiar. Irish, Italian, Pole, Chinese, Vietnamese - the origin changes, the bigotry is the same.

The fact remains, immigrants from these “shithole” countries currently in vogue are better educated than the native population (cited in my link above). The fact remains that they have the drive to rise above their (relative) poverty, the drive to strive to make a better life for themselves and their families.

These are facts.

Yes, as we all know all that new-fangled stuff is invented by the conservatives, as you would expect from a crowd that keeps telling that everything was better in the days of yore.

You’re right. Other countries should close their doors to American immigrants.

Thinking about my “research” into Starving’s fascination with Trump, I find it amusingly symbolic that Starving Artist’s very first mention of Trump was a lie:

(This came from a Cafe Society thread — Starving was fascinated by The Apprentice.)
Starving has posted thousands if not tens of thousands of fawning sentences here at SDMB about the short-fingered con artist. Isn’t it fitting that the very first sentence is this easily disproved lie? No, Artist, Trump does NOT have an MBA, from Wharton or anywhere else.

There is one point where I agree with Starving and disagree with the SDMB hoi polloi. Trump is some sort of genius. He parlayed his crimes and lies and comedy acts into the Oval Office. Martin Shkreli didn’t do that. W.C. Fields didn’t do that. ‘Boss’ Tweed, Lil’ Kim, W.R. Hearst, Rush Limbaugh, Pretty Boy Floyd, Carlo Gambino, Bernie Madoff, Albert DeSalvo — none of them did that.

ETA: IIRC Starving also supported the Kenya birth hoax.

Wisdom? Where was I trying to quote wisdom? Try again.

My sources are for actual information are nonbiased, unlike the presentation you laid out above.

Search facts, not op-eds, for information.

I never mentioned closing doors, as in completely stopping people. Where did you get that idea?

But If other countries would or should do that, its their decision and they have every right to. Fine by me.

“quite”? Maybe quit wisdom? Now that would explain a lot. But since you corrected, no, you are not off the hook. You indeed praised SA, and if you had bothered to check his posting history you should had learned not to fawn on him. Of course, it is too late now.

So as many pointed before, you have none, that figures. In any case, it should be noticed that you had no factual reply to the fact that many immigrants before also came from shitty nations. So you continue to be factually wrong on that.

Some of those immigrants even joined the army in WWII and were invaluable when the US defeated the Axis powers in Italy.

I would urge posters to ignore the hijack from the trolls, one of whom is almost certainly a sock of another one, and continue on with the intended purpose of this thread. There are so many posters in this thread on my ignore list that the pages are beginning to look like WWII letters from GIs at the front.

none of what you just stated makes it any less racist of a comment - if anything, you managed to make it more of one. Hope you’re pretty proud of yourself.

you know - if I have two choices to make about a person from a ‘shit hole country’ -

a) what can I do to help that person have a better life. If that means letting them take a chance and immigrate here and give it a shot - I’m all for it.

b) tell that person he’s not worth entry to ‘my’ country.

I’m going to chose (a) every fucking time.

I don’t need factual sources for common knowledge such as that, nor would I refute that. Society has changed since then, things are different and different principles need to apply. In any case, i’m done here. I commend you GIGObuster for at least having some genuinely lucid ideas and thoughts.

In your petty mind, sure.

b.) its done world wide, the U.S. is not going to be an exception.

idiot.

Siam Sam keep believing your own bullshit.

Well, I’ve said my part. Not going to waste my mind on any more idiots and liberal trolls. It’s astounding how many people can’t separate fact and fiction, or discern free speech and opinion.

With that, regardless of opinion. I wish you all a good night.

I thought the US was a ‘christian’ nation? You know, love your brother and all that… Guess that only counts if you’re not from a ‘shit hole’.

Thought the US was supposed to be ‘better’ than everyone else - a beacon of democracy - you know “send us your poor,…” - fuck - guess that doesn’t count either.

Hmmmm… what was that ‘good samaritan’ stuff - know I read it somewhere - shit - guess that doesn’t count anymore either.

Now - fuck off.

Free Speech

I can testify as to the bureaucratic nightmare of government-paid health care in Canada. I was recently forced to renew my health card, necessitating that I drive *three *socialist kilometres to a government services office, where I was forced to take a number, and wait to have my picture taken, and then wait some more for the new card to arrive in the mail. When I go to my doctor’s office or the hospital, I am forced to hand over my card and allow them to run it through the card reader! When I get a copy of any tests done, I am forced to file it in my records when I get home!

Getting back to the actual thread topic, Trump might want to remember that it wasn’t that long ago that most countries didn’t welcome immigrants from Norway.

Of course, one very, very, very important one is that there are vast opportunities now for propaganda to cloud the minds of many. And unfortunately for you, most of the right-wing media is dropping the idea of looking at the facts.

Incidentally, I’m on the record of avoiding many left wing sources of information, my basic rule is that when one important item like GMOs or Climate Change is misunderstood or reported wrong is that then to the delete pile that link/source goes, and so it is from some “friends” on social media.

Of course, it has to be noticed here that I’m a Salvadorean that became a US citizen thanks to Saint Reagan (I usually hear some republican heads still blowing when they learn that  ). So you should know that I do keep track of the old country, and I have to report that Trump is a uniter all right, both the left and the right in the old country are pissed at Trump’s decision to end the TPS and the latest insult does not help to get things better.

I’m in Canada, too, and I’m familiar with those socialist horrors. My health card was about to expire recently, meaning I would have no health insurance if I didn’t renew it, and the only way to get it renewed was to write my name on a form and submit to getting my picture taken. The harrowing experience has left me devastated. Communism has pretty much arrived, as Starving Artist will tell you.

And then there’s the story of my visit to the hospital ER in December of '16. I wanted them to check out a mild chest pain, and I left some snacks on the counter figuring I’d be back in about an hour. Turned out I was having a heart attack. The assumed hour turned into five days in hospital and a heart operation. In order to pay for this sudden unexpected medical emergency, I was forced to let them scan my health card so they could bill the government, another sign of rampant socialism and incipient communism. When it was all over, my final duty on the way out was to thank the doctors and nurses. They actually have a billing and accounts office in the hospital, but I don’t really know what it’s for. Maybe for Americans, so they can feel at home. Otherwise it’s a pretty lonely and unused place, another sign that communism has arrived.

It’s good to have Republican wingnuts like Starving Artist instruct us on all the horrors of socialized medicine, but I just thought I’d give folks a first-hand perspective of the horrors from someone who’s actually lived them.

You’ve failed to understand the point, not for the first time in this thread.

You were implying that if a person comes from a country that “can’t take care of their own” then it reflects badly against that person.
So, by your logic, what can we infer from american citizenship?
