But of course that raises the question: why and how does a propensity to adore bullies correlate, evolutionarily-speaking, with an incapacity to experience shame?

And, in response to the outrage expressed by survivors of the Parkland massacre, our god-emperor will on Wednesday hold a “listening session” with high school teachers and students. It’s unclear whether any Parklanders will be participating; in fact the article doesn’t indicate where exactly any of the attendees will be drawn from. Seems unlikely given
If any of the young men and women of Parkland who’ve been speaking out so forcefully do attend the Trumpaganza, I suspect it will not go well for said god-emperor.
Why is anyone surprised that Trump failed to show empathy? He’s a sociopath after all. That’s what he does: fails to have empathy; everything’s about him.
Anyway, years ago, when my friend’s daughter was 2 years old, the daughter was a hellion, a real terror. One thing that would shut her wailing off in an instant was to simply point a camera (this was in the days before everyone had digital cameras) at her. So long as she heard the shutter clicking, she’d smile and pose, pose and smile. Now, my friend’s daughter is no sociopath or psychopath, but with Trump what we have is an ostensibly grown man who reacts to any camera exposure exactly the way my friend’s daughter did when she was 2. That’s what the idiots voted for and that’s what they got. Damn it.

I really think he thinks this is his special day. Because it’s Presidents Day. And he’s President.
I think you may be giving him too much credit. Probably he just dimly absorbed in the past couple of days the notion that just now his grinny thumbs-up Dear Leader schtick is somehow not making the masses adore him as much as usual, so he needs to project some “compassion” and “gravitas” to reassure the little people that he cares about their petty little tribulations. Hence the combo of the standard chirpy holiday greeting with the Serious-Face Moment of Thoughtfulness.
