The greater danger is the loss of faith in America’s willingness to live up to its agreements in trade pacts. If trading partners are of the opinion that we’re just a signatory in name only and not a trading partner, then they’re going to look elsewhere for reliable trade. That’s not to say that America will immediately descend into irrelevancy but our power is going to be diluted and absorbed by others. If Trump’s administration is concerned about Chinese power, the great irony is that a trade rift would hurt China in the short run, but certainly not as much as we would be hurting ourselves in the longer term. Canada, Australia, Japan, Korea…if all of these countries get the message that they’re viewed as adversaries, then they look for someone else to partner with – like each other. And other major trading blocs, like China or EU.

Coupled with this administration’s unwillingness to challenge Russian interference in our elections, and our complete retreat from our traditional foreign policy theater, this administration is charting a course for an America that emerges in 10 years as a much, much weaker - and poorer - country.

That’s truly horrifying. Especially since the US is going to need 1.5 trillion to make up for the money this administration is going to divert from the treasury to give to their friends. I don’t even want to think about what we’re going to be paying to service that debt.

I didn’t know where to post this, so decided to put it here. In the Washington Post today there’s an articlequestioning how Melania Trump qualified for the so-called “Einstein Visa,” which is reserved for notable scientists, writers, artists, who have made significant contributions to the world and/or have gotten awards like Pulitzers, Nobels, Oscars, etc. That question probably does deserve a thread of its own.

HOWEVER, what struck me in the article was this pictureof Melania that accompanied it. It is undated, but from the context, seems to be from when she first met Donny. Have we seen ANYTHING remotely resembling that dazzling, happy smile in the last couple of years, since the campaign began and including the first year of his [del]reign[/del] presidency? That is the picture of a happy woman. Now, not so much.

Pence…sure. That’s really all the VP has to do, is to go to funerals. But Trump? Seriously? First: he should be struck by lightning any time he goes near any faith-based service. But other than the State of the Union, are there any occasions that warrant attendance by both the Prez and the Veep?

But then, he’s got nothing better to do than watch Fox and start trade wars.

No one at the State Department, the Treasury Department or the Defense Department had been told that a new policy was about to be announced or given an opportunity to weigh in in advance.
