This is messed up, right? With all the tweeting our leader does, you’d think he would have thrown one at James Shaw Jr. by now. But he hasn’t.
OK. Maybe he’s just been real busy.
But Trump invited the folks involved with the recent Southwest airlines disaster to the White House. What they did was great, don’t get me wrong. But none of them risked their lives to save others. And mass shootings are at the forefront of our collective consciousness right now. Seems rather strange that Trump wouldn’t at least point out Shaw Jr. as an example of what real “first response” looks like, given the embarrassing first response that occurred in Parkland.
It’s shit like this that just entrenches the narrative that Trump is a racist bastard who is married to the NRA. Fuck him for not even caring about how awful he looks.
You can bet that if Shaw had been a good guy with a gun and shot that guy instead of tackling him, he would have been in the White House within the week, if not the very next day.
Mr Shaw has several strikes against him. He’s not a good, white man with a gun but a good, black man without a gun. Trump may stumble into cognitive dissonance when faced with ‘good’ and ‘black’ so close together, and the NRA belief is that no one can defend himself without a gun. The photos I’ve seen of the airline crew and passengers show them gleamingly white, including some attractive females, and Trump may have been shopping for his next conquest. Shaw, being black and male, is not in the running.
He fully deserved that Purple Heart. It’s a medal for people who receive injuries due to combat. And does anyone doubt that Trump’s bone spurs were directly caused by the Vietnam War?
I still like to picture Mr. Shaw being nominated for the Nobel Peace prize. I like it a lot, on several counts: he deserves recognition for taking personal responsibility to stop violence; all of us who deplore Trump’s failure to recognize Shaw would enjoy seeing that injustice rectified; and of course, it would give Trump apoplexy.

Is someone in Congress going to locate a functioning pair of gonads and break the news to him? Frankly, I can see the headlines: “The President refuses to leave. Congress helpless.”
