When I say “when I was upset,” I mean at Trump winning. And the comment was a form of reassurance. Note that it was tacked on to “God is in control, and can use evil to bring about good.” Still, based on how they talked in other places, they seem to have voted for Trump.
I know people who are convinced that they are not racists because they hate only one or two racial groups. In their minds, they are not racists because they aren’t white supremacists.
I think his calculus for being pro-Israel is that Muslims generally are anti-Israel.
I know several Katalans (my Idiot Aunt, the owner of one of my former client companies…) who think they are not xenophobic because they don’t hate seasonal workers, tourists or Erasmus exchange students - just those outsiders who dare want to stay.
Already been covered. For me, the funny part was when Clovenhoof, the earthly avatar of Satan, handed out a couple dozen LSD-laced brownies at a Trump rally in North Carolina. When they were looking at the raw interview footage afterwards, they couldn’t tell the ones who’d gotten a brownie from the ones who had not.
The following is a genuine quotation (though I have changed one word). I will discuss the quote further in another thread, but I want to pose a question:
Is this a fair assessment of Trump’s candidacy? Does it exaggerate or minimize his unfitness?
Which word did you change and why?
I suspect it was originally said of someone other than Trump. septimus may be hoping we’ll agree with it, then say “gotcha ya, he was talking about John F. Kennedy”.

William Randolph Hearst for President
He changed Hearst to Trump.
In 1904, William R. Hearst received all the votes of 11 states (and some votes from 9 other states) on the first ballot for Presidential candidate at the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis. The quotation is by Rollo Ogden of the New York Evening Post, a competitor to Hearst’s New York Journal. I found it while rereading Citizen Hearst — an excellent biography(*) — and was struck by how well it applies to the present President.
Whatever Hearst’s faults, he was a generous and good-spirited man, often paying for expensive care when his employees had illness or injury. There were some strong similarities between his character and Trump’s, but in some important ways they are opposites. And, while he had an eye for pretty women, Hearst was never a rapist like the present White House incumbent.

- I wasn’t sure where to post this quote. Perhaps Cafe Society would have been a better choice. Citizen Hearst by W.A. Swanberg is an excellent biography to read. It is well researched and well written, but what makes it special is the character it describes. If you think the movie Citizen Kane was an exaggeration of Citizen Hearst you’ve got it backwards! The strange facts of Hearst’s career are indeed stranger than fiction!
ETA: Although I have the book in front of me, I didn’t want to type in the quote from scratch so I Googled for it. But I found only Google Books (unable to Copy/Paste?) and “Do you want a Free Trial?” newspaper sites. As I kept searching I often found quotes about Trump showing up in the Google results!
Yet this source is copiable! I wonder how my Googling missed it.
I read the ‘hostages’ passage as Trump thumbing his nose at Kim–‘hahaha, you gave up something and I didn’t give up anything, sucka!!!11!!!’
The entire passive-aggressive letter is basically Trump thumping his chest and sneering at Kim.
“China Approves 5 New Trademarks For Ivanka Trump Business As President Forges ZTE Deal”
“The trademark approvals raise new concerns about potential Trump family conflicts of interest.”
As if anyone cares, right?
Ivanka Trump’s business has won approval from the Chinese government for at least five new trademarks. The approval came just days before President Donald Trump announced he was working on a controversial deal to drop U.S. prohibitions against China cellphone manufacturer ZTE.
…
Meanwhile, some 72 hours before his tweet about ZTE, China quietly agreed to loan $500 million to an Indonesian theme park project in which the president is a partner. Chinese banks agreed to loan an additional $500 million to the project. The non-profit Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, D.C., said the trademark deal again raises concerns about the Trump family’s international businesses and potential conflicts of interest.

“Raises concerns”? :smack: A voice crying in the wilderness. President PantsOnHead doesn’t even pretend to do this under the table like a normal crook.

Why should he? The republican party has pretty much told him that the presidency is his to be looted, as long as he signs their bills.

One amusing aspect to this is the image of CHINA issuing an official, government-approved imprimatur of IP, amirite?

Now how can this not be seen as conflicts of interest? Impeachment proceedings would’ve started post haste if Obama booked a weekend trip to Kenya. Why doesn’t Mueller just start with this? And evil China, you know, the one we need to start a trade war with because trade wars are easy?

Maybe that’s what he meant.
“Trade wars are easy. I am taking China’s side.”

It clearly is worth impeachment. Problem is, as long as Trump feeds his moron base lies, and his money base hints at more money The republican senate will not vote to impeach. We need a 2/3rd’s majority in the senate.
Mueller is going to have to present something so grievous, so offensive and horrible and actually offend the people that actually voted for an offensive asshole. THEY VOTED FOR HIM AND STILL SUPPORT HIM.
And they are going to have to admit that they made a bad choice in voting for the idiot. Their savior.
I do think that Mueller will find a smoking gun. Probably already has found a few in Trumps hand.
I think the trade war schtick was bullshit. He told the public this just so he and daughter can make money. I think there’s no intention to actually raise a real tariff against China, just smoke to make money.
