So, international students cannot take a fully online course load if this actually goes through. They would have to transfer from wherever they are to a school that has in-person instruction, or else they would have to leave the country voluntarily or be deported.
This is fucked up in so many ways. It harms these students, who have done nothing wrong and just want to study here. They pay through the nose to do so, and now they are being told to endanger their health or get out.
It is harmful to faculty, many of whom are adjunct and depend on enrollment for their livelihoods.
It’s harmful to the economy (see my comment above about all the money these students pay).
This is nothing but a way to force people back onto college campuses despite the pandemic, and to stick it to them for being from other countries.
Depending on the type of student, they may even be taking classes online but doing work at the university in person. Many students do all sorts of work: janitorial, cafeteria worker, administrative, and even teaching.
This is just nothing but sheer meanness. First off, a lot of students stayed in the US to avoid getting caught outside the country, didn’t they? Now how are they supposed to go home with the drastic reduction in international flights? On top of that, what aobut their lodgings, both for those who were living in dormitories and those who are renting off-campus?
No, January 21st can’t get here fast enough. This asshole will find all sorts of new ways to piss people off after he loses but still remains the POTUS. Do not underestimate his rage after he loses.
