The one way to make sure he will NOT do a thing is to tell him he has to do it (and vice versa). Just like a two-year old who is learning the meaning of “No!”
I’ll bet he saw Fauci’s pitch and couldn’t quite convnce himself that he wouldn’t do just as poorly or worse, despite being some kinda baseball wunderkind in his long-ago youth. After the ramp thing, where he was going extra slow-and-careful so as not to fall and give the media a field day, his #1 concern here is how he will look. Anybody with humility would recognize it for the nice little honor it is and just do it, with self-deprecating attitude about it if called for. Trump, however, has to be the best; anything less is humiliating and thus off the table.
Sheesh, this turned into a lengthy bit of a rant. And my fingers were a blur on the keyboard, too, getting this all out. Maybe I need a break for a few days.
You know (regarding Trump and not having thrown out a first pitch–which BTW is a tradition since 1910 of Presidents doing it at least once and he never has), just might have to do with his Obama-mania. By this I mean Obama did it twice as President (once in 2009 and on Opening Day of the 2010 season) and both times he jogged out to the mound and threw the pitch from out there (2009 was ok, 2010 was Fauci-like). But he was dressed for the occasion and looked…comfortable…out there.
Can you imagine Trump in baseball appropriate attire, jogging out to the mound and trying to throw it? I think the narcissist in him wants to, but some semblance of reason tells him he’d look embarrassing, especially when compared to “that person”…
So he’ll just duck it so those comparisons can’t be made.
He can only fake sincerity with one thing at a time (and then only if he absolutely has to). Right now, it’s taking everything he has to fake it with covid19.
