Except the military incentivizes combat service. On the financial side, service members who are serving in a combat zone deemed to be an imminent danger area get an additional hostile fire/imminent danger pay bump on top of their normal salary and, at least in the Middle East, also do not have to pay income tax on any pay earned in that area up to a certain point.
On the career and prestige side, service members who have been awarded military medals for valor are lionized (as they are generally in the civilian world as well). In the Army, perhaps the most bling-obsessed of the services, soldiers are entitled to wear their unit’s patch on their right side if they serve in a hostile fire/imminent danger pay zone for a requisite period with that unit, in addition to other medals. Soldiers without such a patch can be considered “slick-sleeved” or “light on the right” and are sometimes viewed less favorably, particularly for promotions, than soldiers who have deployed, even if these soldiers did not actually reject or otherwise try to get out of a hostile fire/imminent danger deployment.
Trump drinks two gallons of prune juice, eats three pounds of sauerkraut, gulps down two hand fulls of laxatives while proclaiming to the NRA, ‘I am going to come through for you’.
Did you notice how Chris W. Cox, the NRA’s chief lobbyist, and NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre, pissed all over themselves in absolute glee?
Ugh. The NRA already has all 3 branches of government in their pocket, and Trump is promising to “come through for them”? That’s like going to Liberty University and vowing to end the persecution of Christians in this country.
There are people in this country, innocent people mind you, that can’t buy assault weapons. How long is too long for these innocent people to suffer? Have you no compassion?
Former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown noted in his regular opinion column that pretty soon, Trump will run out of Obama-era initiatives to cancel; and then his administration will grind to a halt.
