As long as the pro-life right held the key to the nomination for him, Trump was all in favor of their position.
But now that it looks like an electoral loser, he’s going to turn on them.
If he had been against abortion as a principle, he wouldn’t be doing what he just did - he would be talking up the party line about how America needs the “culture of life” and how important it is to fight for those values.
Instead, the “most pro-life president in American history” is showing that he has no internal values system of his own - that all he craves is popularity and respect, but he knows how to get neither.
I’m pretty sure he knows how to get a certain amount of it - by being a bigoted asshole, which seems to fit many of his natural inclinations.
He doesn’t, however, know how to get it from more than the ~40% of Americans who are also bigoted assholes, nor how to sustain it for more than a few years, which he’s mainly done so far by getting the low hanging fruit.
Nonsense! Trump has the best moral and ethics! Better than Lincoln, Washington, Mother Theresa and Gandhi put together. The Pope told him that in person! “You have the most amazing ethnics, Sir!” he said, with tears in his eyes!
“… in order to make the Biden Classified Docs look less significant.” Sure, Donnie. Let’s just forget about the fact that your classified documents fiasco has been going on pretty much as long as you’ve been out of office, and they just found Biden’s classified documents within the last couple of months. They raided your house and took all those empty folders and made a big deal about it because they knew they were going to need cover for Biden six months later!
Okay, does this score highest on the Hilarious scale, the Most Pathetic scale, or the Liar Liar Pants on Fire scale?
…
Trump, who is being sued by Carroll, an author and advice columnist, for defamation and sexual assault stemming from the same alleged encounter, has repeatedly said Carroll is not his “type,” suggesting an assault could not have occurred because he would not have pursued her romantically.
“That’s Marla, yeah. That’s my wife,” Trump said under examination from Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan, in a new selection of excerpts from the deposition that was unsealed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
Trump’s blunder in a sworn deposition was quickly corrected by his attorney Alina Habba, who told him it was Carroll, not Maples, an actress and singer who was married to Trump from 1993 to 1999.
…
Trump’s lawyer did not immediately have a comment.

Or just proof that he really is cognitively impaired? Maybe they should do that “man woman person tv camera” test on him again and see if he aces it this time.
That’s my assumption. I don’t think he’d deliberately lie about that sort of thing (because it doesn’t serve him to do so, he’ll of course lie when it suits him). I simply think he’s not firing on all cylinders. He’s closer to 80 than 70 at this point.
(I also wouldn’t be surprised if Joe Biden has that problem at times as well, but honestly, he has been so gaffe-prone for his entire life in the public eye that it’s hard to tell.)
