The only court of law Trump ever gives a thought to is the court of public opinion, and there it’s a perfectly cromulent defense to the credulous.
I believe the assumption his followers are supposed to infer is that the evil, biased, America-hating, Dem-appointed judge prevented him from testifying, not that his own lawyers recommended he not.
It’s possible he was fully conscious that his own lawyers said he shouldn’t testify but deliberately misled the crowd by implying that the court prevented him from testifying. It’s also possible that he is sufficiently self deceiving that he actually believes he was in some way “prevented” from testifying because his own lawyers insisted it would be a bad idea.
I don’t know which of these two possibilities is correct. The extent to which Trump is conscious of his own bullshit is an open question. I tend towards the view he is not a person capable of distinguishing between what he wants to believe and what is real.
I think the real issue is that, for him, for his entire life, whether whatever he says is true or not, has not mattered a whit. That leads to someone who is simply incapable of determining reality.
Don has been creating his own reality for some time now. Maybe even all his life. That’s why gaslighting comes so easily to him. He’s a pathological liar and it’s possible he doesn’t even realize he’s fabricating his world. In his world, he’s always the winner, never the loser. If he states it is thus, then it is thus, even if it wasn’t yesterday. Individual 1 is not the kind of person who should EVER be trusted with running ANYTHING. The fact that he was President for four years with seriously fcking up the country is a miracle. Well…fcking it up worse than it is with all the MAGA followers.
It has mattered to some extent – he has been forced to settle or lost numerous court cases, gone bankrupt regularly etc. I think it’s not so much that his bullshit has not mattered a whit as that he has the type of personality which allows him to just put failures out of his mind and pretend they never happened.
Weren’t there reports in the news after the election that he was seen sitting in the Oval Office saying over and over again “I won. I won”?
Not surprising
There have been reports he is greatly influenced by “The Power of Positive Thinking” and was dumb enough to think it was literally true, i.e. believe strongly enough and the world will change to match. Being wealthy enough from an early age to have people suck up and not ever contradict him life of course did nothing to discourage such an inane belief.
He’s like the Squire of Gothos?
100% correct. And the really sad part is, there are millions of those credulous. They will be happy and proud to believe and spout Trump’s ridiculous excuse.

certainly wasn’t meaning to suggest that clients who think this way can use it as any form of legal defence. Rather, it’s simply how they reference the decision in subsequent discussions. …
I know; I wasn’t accusing you of anything, but rather just attempting to add to the discussion.
Trump’s excuses, for this and a billion other incidents and failures throughout his life, would make a genuinely impressive Presidential Library. Just the excuses; nothing more.
They’d need a thousand acres for the building-size required, even if all the excuses were inscribed only on digital media…

The best cat in the world is still dead and that racist, raping reprobate is still breathing. It pisses me off every day.
Hear, hear!
I’m pissed off that everyone (including us) is still spending so much time, energy, and bandwidth talking and thinking about him! I hate that what he says and does still matters – while recognizing that it does.
Amen, singin’ to the choir. I don’t want to ignore him though. He gets away with enough shit when he’s being watched. Imagine what he’d do if everyone tried to ignore him. Though the thought of his orange face turning purple when people stopped paying attention is strangely tempting.
I know we can’t ignore him. That makes it even more infuriating.
He became the problem he is because in the beginning of his shenanigans (when I was a wee 'un growing up on the Eastern Seaboard), nobody was watching him then and thus he wasn’t held accountable.
