How has the disgraced, CONVICTED FELON, former but once again President Trump pissed you off today? (Part 1)

Such a deal!

NFCheese?

Lower-fat than the regular kind.

There is an article on Yahoo News (via ABC News) that I won’t link to because of the auto-play video but it is reporting that Trump’s legal team has requested a meeting with the Attorney General because they have a feeling an indictment is imminent in the classified documents case.

From the article:

The letter asks Garland for a meeting at his earliest convenience to discuss what the attorneys describe as the “ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated” by special counsel Jack Smith and says that no president has been “baselessly investigated” in such an “unlawful fashion.”

Well, isn’t that fucking lovely? If a person feels persecuted all they have to do is appeal to the AG himself for relief! I hope Garland tells Trump to stick it up his ass.

“It would be inappropriate for us to discuss an ongoing investigation.”

I wonder if Trump still thinks he can talk his way out of everything?

Judging by his inability to shut up about E. Jean Carroll, I’d say yes, he does indeed think that. Some day he’s going to say she’s crazy and she’s making it all up and blah de blah and we’re all going to go “OMG, he’s right! He’s been right this whole time! Why did we ever doubt him?” It seems to be the same form of energy that drives 9/11 truthers to this board from time to time to amaze us with some new factoid that blows the whole thing open. But if Trump thinks “repeat it until it becomes true” is going to work for him here despite multi-million dollar sanctions, well… you do you, Trump.

Repeat it until his marks believe it to be true has worked for him thus far. Well, except for the recent comeuppances. Let’s hope his losing streak continues!

More importantly it would be inappropriate for him to get involved at all. That was the whole point behind assigning Smith, that the Garland as a person with potential political interests connected to the Biden administration would in no way influence the investigation.

His lying only works if he’s lying to people who actively want to believe his lies to be true, and so inclined to avoid any information to the contrary. Unfortunately for him it doesn’t work well with Judges, or with jurors who have been forced to listen to facts that contradict him.

I’ve seen this discussed before, and apparently it’s not at all unusual for defense attorneys to request a meeting with the prosecutors when an indictment is imminent. For the defense, it’s a last ditch effort to save off the indictment; for the prosecutors, it’s a final opportunity to find out something which might change their approach (or even convince them that they don’t have a case after all).

Of course, they have to throw in garbage about the unfairness of it all and a dollop of Hunter Biden to keep the marks engaged. And address the request to Garland so they can use his (proper) refusal to “prove” it’s all a political witch hunt.

Here they’re wanting going around the prosecutor, and talk directly to his manager.

All true.

If the Trump team went around Smith in an effort to appeal directly to Garland, I’m confident AG Garland’s response will be to politely direct them to contact Mr. Smith for a discussion.

If the Trump team has already had a conversation with Smith, found no satisfaction and have now contacted AG Garland in an effort to get a different or better result, I’m confident AG Garland’s response will be to politely set a meeting, hear the Trump team out, then carry on accordingly.

If this investigation could have been curtailed through discussion, it would have happened long ago. Listening is a courtesy an AG would afford any former president in this circumstance, but it doesn’t mean Garland will do anything to favor Trump other than listen.

I expect indictments very soon. And I expect them to be wicked.

If they don’t like the answer they get from Garland, think they’ll complain to his manager?

Garland should have no such meeting at all, ever. Smith is there to keep Garland (Biden) out of this.

At a purely gut, illogical, level, I fear that he will get off scot-free and thus continue his trail of democratic sabotage. At the same time I really hope that you’re correct.

It’s hard to say if he will or won’t. I would prefer he didn’t, but I can make an argument for why he might.

Biden isn’t in it either way. There’s been a hard wall between this AG and the Biden Administration – as it ever was before Trump.

It will be politicized either way, so maybe Garland won’t put himself through it.

I’ll have a whole lotta shit sammiches to eat if I’m wrong and I’d rather not do that. But as someone who has watched criminal investigations and court proceedings up close and personal for more than half my life, I’m pretty comfortable making this call.

Agreed. In either case, it’s important for the Keystone Kounsels to give the impression that Garland — and by extension, Biden — is pulling the strings in order to keep the “political witch hunt” narrative alive and kicking. Since Barr et cie. were acting as Trump’s personal fixers, it follows that Garland must be doing the same for Biden, right?

If Garland meets personally with any of Trump’s lawyers I will believe that Garland has no sense whatsoever.

You don’t think much of Garland anyway, do you? That’s been my impression, at least.
