Whenever Trump gets handed another indictment, why do his poll numbers go up? What’s wrong with people? Is negative attention better than no attention at all?
It’s because his supporters truly believe he’s being mistreated by the evil deep state, which, of course, is run by the democrats. Accept the fact that is why and you will not be surprised by anything else they do or say.
I think all we are seeing is a rats leaving a sinking ship phenomenon. The deeper this whole Trump thing gets, the fewer people even want to be associated with the Republican party. Of course, the Trump base will never leave, so their percentage goes up.
The RWNJs are now trying to defend the concept that the 1st Amendment protects Trump’s right to lie about the election. That’s right, they’re finally admitting he was lying all along. And, they’re also right that the 1st Amendment protects his right to do this. It’s funny to watch them strenuously argue that there is nothing wrong with lying. Even when Trump is lying to them. I think some Republicans, moral as they are, were OK when Trump was lying to the libs, but I think for some of them, lying to his base is going too far. Not all of them, perhaps not even a large number, but what is significant is that it would mean that the number of people who would vote for Trump in the General Election is actually decreasing, not increasing as the poll numbers suggest.
Let’s just hope those assholes go down with the ship.

Yes, and the indictment acknowledges Trump’s Constitutional right to free speech, including the right to even lie about winning the election, But the indictment also makes clear he’s not being charged for his speech, but rather, for his actions.
That’s why I call him the America-hating fuckstick, instead of the America-loving fuckstick.
If Stormy Daniels can be believed, fuckstick may not be a very good description. Trump is just as crazy as his BFF Putin and Kim Jong-Un.

I am reminded of a political cartoon by Doug Wright (?) in the early eighties. First panel is Jimmy Carter saying “I will never lie to you,” to a bunch of boos and jeers. The second panel is Reagan saying, “I am lying to you,” to a bunch of cheers.
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a European country under attack that needs our support.
Well it’s all through a tribal lens.
They believe any accusation about Democrats, no matter how outlandish, and no matter the lack of evidence, and believe those crimes should be punished harshly.
They refuse to believe any accusation against Republicans, even when (as is often the case for Trump) we have audio or video of them clearly lying and/or breaking the law. And to the extent they even acknowledge the crimes, they handwave them.
It’s incredibly frustrating, to be honest.
I try, on some of the MAGA forums, to ask whether they’d feel the same about X if it was about the other political party. They just deflect from the question.
They are afraid. But they don’t know what they are afraid of, because there really isn’t anything to fear except the things that have been shown to them over, and over again and they deny. 'cause reasons.
The republicans (DJT) built the MAGA base. For one reason - To strip them of money and get attention. Well, DJT sure has attention now doesn’t he. And his base is being put in prison for, you know, crimes.

Not surprising. And that, for me, is the acid test of partisanship. If the “perfect call” had been about China and not Ukraine, and if it had been Hillary and not Trump, would the MAGAheads still be totally cool with it? I think we all know the answer. Yeesh.

The email I got from him yesterday begging for money, he said the RINOs were worse than the Democrats, which must confuse the hell out of his followers.
I’m actually fine with conservatism. Move slow and cautious. I am cautious. Some would consider me slow. But MOVE dammit.
I’m a moderate leaning left. But these folks are just assholes and criminals.
The GOP are not conservatives. They are running full speed in reverse. They believe that the 50’s where an ideal time because all the know about it is Ward, June and ‘The Beaver’.
Don’t know if I’ve ever voted for a Republican. I doubt it. I know now that I never will.
