Yeah, I’d love to hear someone try to nail this guy down like that. However, I kinda wonder if there’s some reason why the justices didn’t. A question like you suggest is rather open-ended, and gives the attorney the opportunity to drive the conversation in any direction he chooses. Instead, it seemed like the justices were asking very pointed, specific, yes/no questions; maybe to keep some control of the narrative (or make the weaseling more blatant). I haven’t heard enough of these oral arguments to know if this is the way they usually go.
I always suspect it’s because they’re justices, not litigating attorneys trying to trip up the opposing counsel’s witness. That’s beneath her. She got her answer.
But she needs to keep in mind that I’m listening and would get tremendous satisfaction hearing that guy have to acknowledge her point without any ambiguity.

Not trying to trip up a witness, but the questions should be asked to test the strength of the attorney’s argument. To that end, seems like they have to be somewhat oppositional.

I get what you mean, but there actually IS a Trump-defender answer to the question of when ‘a President’ is NOT immune from prosecution. And that answer is: IF that President is impeached-and-convicted, THEN that President may be indicted for whatever crimes he or she may have committed.
No impeachment-then-conviction = immunity.
There’s no support for this in the Constitution. But the right–and, deplorably, the Republican Justices–have apparently decided to pretend that there is.

I really, really hope that Merchan digs into this bullshit, and tells Trump explicitly what is in the gag order, and has Trump repeat it back to him word for word. Ask him if he understands this, or if he would like it explained more. THEN ask Trump if the gag order makes it so he is unable to state his views, feelings and policies. Just keep him to a yes or no answer.
Trump understands that the gag order doesn’t prevent him from lying about the gag order, and Merchan also (of course) understands that.
It just occurred to me tonight that Trump is trying to make this into a wrestling sort of thing so he will look like a tough guy. “Crooked Joe! I’m going to take your title! I’m going to beat your ass! You are a coward and a weasel with tiny hands! I dare you to get in the ring with me! ANY WHERE, ANY TIME, ANY PLACE!”

It’s not for nothing. Trump has a history in pro wrestling, and as someone who considers themselves a fan I swear I see similarities in the way he performs his speeches sometimes.
