When I watched this on TV, you could see the congresscritters compulsively applauding, with no one wanting to be the first to stop. They continued even after he had left the room. It reminded me of what I’d heard about compulsory applause at political events in the old USSR. I can’t remember them doing this for any previous president.

I’ve wondered about this before – does Trump simply not understand how tariffs work? (After all this time he’s surely had it explained to him many times over). Or does he think his constituency is so stupid that they don’t understand how tariffs work? Neither possibility is very attractive, and I can’t see a third. Trump acts as if tariffs are paid by the country they are levied against, and are therefore an inexhaustible supply of money that doesn’t hurt anyone in the US, whereas they are actually higher costs for imported goods ultimately paid for by US citizens or corporations.
I think he honestly thinks that tariffs are paid by the exporting country. It probably has been explained to him many times but his skull has the density of lead. The MAGA base will eat up the idea since they’re as stupid as he is if not more.

So it turns out that Florida congressman Greg Steube is supposed to be introducing a bill that will name the United States’ coastal waters after Donald Trump.

Luckily, this suggestion is rightfully being mocked on social media.
It would be strangely apprpriate to name a swamp after Donald Trump.
If he would like to name Florida swamps after Trump, I could probably get behind it. A democrat should introduce such a bill.
