Think of the kind of people who would never have thought of going into politics, because they couldn’t get as rich that way as they could by dealing drugs and breaking legs.
And now they can get that rich in politics. More, even.
After a few years of attracting that type, will we have mayors and state legislators just openly gunning people down in the streets? And getting Time’s Person of the Year status in return?
They showed a snippet of the inauguration on the local news and Trump is actually extorting Tik Tok live. “Give the US 1/2 your worth”, which he says is $500 billion and I won’t ban you.
I think that of all the horrible, dark, depressing moments of the past 8 years this may have hit me the hardest. There literally is no justice. It’s OK to attempt a violent coup, as long as your guy gets into power. We are now officially a banana republic.
The ones who were convicted are still convicted felons. The ones with pending charges have not technically been found guilty of a crime yet and won’t be, since the charges will be dropped now. So, technically not criminals. Or at least not of any crimes relating to Jan 6 (many of these clowns are/were already criminals regardless of Jan 6).
Yes, even the DOJ calls it an “act of forgiveness”.
A pardon is an expression of forgiveness and can help eliminate some of the consequences of a conviction.
Yes, it’s not vacating a conviction. It’s not overturning a conviction. It’s not acquitting someone. It’s saying that they are still guilty of the crime they committed, but that for whatever reason the President of the United States felt that they no longer need to be punished.
How that person is treated depends on a person’s philosophy. Some people will look at a J6 rioter who was pardoned as a vindicated hero, others (like myself) will see them as a criminal who attacked the very foundation of our country’s democracy and was first directed in that effort and then rescued from the consequences by an even bigger criminal who did even more to attack our democracy.
None of that stuff is good for a person. My mom died from gallbladder disease and pancreatic cancer in which it appeared that her drinking of 2 liters of Pepsi per day was a contributing factor. Mostly it was her overconsumption of the stuff, but I think if she had been drinking 2 liters of plain water…with maybe the occasional indulgence of soda…she might have lived much longer. Her death was painful, and she was quite sick for some months before she was diagnosed.
I hate how he won, and he is the President once again, and this time might be so much worse. Right now, many people are stuck in their houses due to the weather, and I hope they are paying attention. Sadly, many will only notice when things begin to hit hard. By then it may be too late.
I hope his children end up safe from the loon that is Stewart Rhodes. His son Dakota seems to be a decent kid. He ran for a seat in the Montana House in 2024 as a Democrat. Of course he lost.
Here is a BBC article showing Stewart Rhodes is a dangerous person. I fear for the safety of his son Dakota, Rhodes ex-wife and the other children.
It’s also “normal behavior” to steal your teenage Mormon wife’s college fund for yourself, and force her to strip to pay for your law school tuition (and one can safely assume that he beat her up every night after she came home, because of all the other men who were looking at her).
It’s also “normal behavior” to leave for long periods of time, and leave your wife and kids with little food and no money or access to it, or a telephone or transportation, and regale them upon your return home with all the stories about the luxurious places you stayed at, and the gourmet meals you consumed.
Not in my world, thankfully.
Of course there’s probably no way to find this out for sure, but I for one would not be happy to find out that I didn’t get into law school, because he was there instead.
