Didn’t Vivy bail already?
He left on Monday, so yes. There are no co-chairs, it’s just Elon now.
The dept is so efficient that it halved its headcount before it even started.
Why? His disastrous handling of a public health emergency can only get one response from him: revenge.
I’m looking past Trump to the billionaire techbros who have bought him. They want to run the country like a corporation. An unhealthy workforce will not be productive. I doubt even RFKjr wants all medical research and communications to be shut down. Trump is having his fun playing king right now but ultimately the techbros should not want this. But, then again, maybe they do want a sick citizenry for some reason. We will see.
They don’t want a sick citizenry. They want a citizenry that is beholden to their paid Juicero-level apps and devices to stay healthy. Any kind of government-led health-information service cuts into tech opportunities.
I was asking why it’s so weird to you. I really had the impression that everyone on the planet expected him to dismantle the US health program at a minimum. If he could, he’d dismantle the planet’s. I mean, it’s not an intelligent move, but it’s certainly an expected one, so it’s not weird that the most unintelligent person to hold the office of president is doing it.
Maybe it’s a plot by Big Pharma to sell more drugs!
Cut off the NIH at the knees.

It’s the perfect storm.
There’s also a downside to forcing employees to stop teleworking. Somebody needs to get through to the iDJiT that there simply aren’t enough desks for everyone to return to the office,* which means spending more money to lease workspaces.
*My employer, for example. With so many people working from home, our local satellite building closed a couple of years ago. GSA would have to negotiate a new lease, assuming it’s not already occupied.
I think that no working remotely is a Musk thing. He’s big on making sure his serfs workers know who their manor lord boss is.
Gotta be, given that it’s coming from DOGE – isn’t that supposed to be saving money?
Four days and he’s already in over his head. Good luck with the unions, Elmo.
Well, it will save money because a lot of people will quit, and there is a hiring freeze on.
Though I feel sorry for those that have to do that. Unemployment is gonna go through the roof.
For a decade my work has been trying to downsize the amount of office space used. They shrank employee areas, such as making cubicles smaller and repurposing offices to be shared spaces and conference rooms. They set up a formal telework system and encouraged supervisors to allow people to telework. They designated workstations to be “touchdowns” where employees would have a place to work while visiting the office rather than having a permanent workspace.
Then the pandemic hit, and everything they were previously doing went into overdrive. Instead of telework being an elective thing that people could apply for and were encouraged to do, it became (at least temporarily for most people) a mandatory thing. The biggest irony was how they were previously squeezing everyone together to save space (and money) and then suddenly everyone had to stay apart from each other.
Most people aren’t going back where I work. Some will, some have to, some (like myself) could never be 100% telework due to the nature of their work. But employees get more freedom and employers can save money by having fewer people in the office at once. It’s a win-win, and the organizations who are forcing people to go back into the office “just because” are sabotaging themselves.
We had a bunch of those as well – primarily in the now-shuttered building. I once tried to get such a cubicle at HQ that I could use between meetings there but it turned to be somebody’s permanent workspace and should not have been listed as available.
Awkward…
I’m sure plenty of Trump’s rich buddies will be willing to step in and provide office space in their property. For the right price.
With “the right price” defined as “far more than Uncle Sam would have to pay with a different person in the Oval Office.”
Don’t forget that Trump needs his cut.
