So I’m watching the Lions - Commanders game yesterday afternoon, and mid-game trump shows up to talk with the two announcers. And they completely gave up game-calling, while the game was happening, to talk to him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. The game is happening while they gush fawningly at trump. I’m just trying to enjoy some Sunday football, and here is the orange attention whore sucking up all the oxygen in the announcer booth. I was yelling at the TV “do your damn job!”
One of them did pause briefly to mention a touchdown: “..and I just want to thank you, President trump…oh, there’s a touchdown…for all you’ve done for this country…blah blah trump blah blah great man blah blah kiss kiss”. It went on for what seemed like a half hour, but was probably just a few minutes.
While this bullshit was going on, I was in a tavern, and a TV was showing the game. I was there, unfortunately, for a gathering honoring a recently deceased friend.
Fortunately, the sound was turned down, so I heard nothing of the exchange. Earlier, I had noticed that the cameras showed DJT in a luxury booth. What was the crowd’s reaction when they saw that he was in attendance?
I didn’t hear any booing-- they may have edited out any booing during the segment, or maybe I just didn’t catch it. But according to several news articles he got booed pretty good:
Seriously, I am baffled at the notion that anyone would watch a game with the sound turned up on the TV. In the past, I managed to “watch” some games featuring the local team, but the audio was from radio, not those useless drooling morons in the TV booth.
I was watching that game. When they showed Trump in a sky box I reached for the remote. I heard them mention that they would be speaking with him during the 3rd quarter.

Granted, but radio is usually several seconds ahead, so I can pay attention to other, more interesing, things and only have to look at the game when something exciting is happening. Out-of-sync is still far better than TV network sewage.
I saw a clip of it on the news this morning. I could definitely hear the “boos” which were constant even while he was trying to talk. I never did figure out what he was preparing to blather about. Also, he looked worse than usual.
I wondered, again,if anyone will boycott if they name the stadium after him.
The boos were extremely loud, enough that it could be in the schadenfreude thread.
The concept of bad optics is something we discuss a lot in sports, especially lately with sports betting more pervasive and leagues needing to convince fans they have a trustworthy product. It’s only right we hold our elected officials to a higher standard — and these were awful optics for a president who was already divisive to begin with.
As someone who has attended a game there once a year for more than a decade, I and my attendee pal have already agreed to stop attending in such circumstances.
