If his real concern was “Global Peace and Security,” he could expand the US military presence in Greenland without needing to take over the island, because a Cold War treaty allows for this. (And the Danes and Greenlanders have said that Trump’s claims of Russian and Chinese ships in the area are bullshit, though I think they’ve been more diplomatic than I would be.)

Possibly? Stop acting like he’s going to annex Canada? Or making his stupid little mouth noises about invading Mexico because “They got drugs?” It might help a little bit.

Another one of his excuses-for-“needing” Greenland, ‘mineral rights,’ has just as little legitimacy as the ‘national security, China and Russia will get it!’ one. Numerous deals have been offered the USA that would result in our getting rare earths and other coveted resources.

I saw the suggestion that, as someone with a background in real estate, he saw this huge island (and it’s particularly large in a Mercator projection map), he thought, “I must have that!” I think someone pointed out that this would be the largest land acquisition in American history. (From Wikipedia, Greenland 836,330 square miles versus 586,400 square miles for Alaska or 828,000 square miles for the Louisiana Purchase.)

Do his handlers just censor the media coverage so that only positive stuff is available for him to see or hear? Is he really that oblivious??
There’s a lot of evidence that Trump is being kept inside a bubble (there were reports of that one staffer who travels with a portable printer, searching for positive news stories to be placed in his hand), but I don’t think it’s possible to state with absolute authority what Trump’s personal experience of the world actually is unless you’re Trump himself.
