Yeah, Leavitt gets undercut a lot. It’s doubtful that it bothers her either personally or professionally (given that her ‘profession’ is ‘blatant propagandist’).
No one will bet against you, there.
Some of these Regime folks have convinced themselves that God truly IS on their side, no matter how vicious and corrupt they may be. Their God loves that stuff.
Other Regime members are likely more cynical and don’t bother with any rationalizations about deities approving of their actions.
I’m not quite sure which are worse—for the nation, or even in a strict moral sense.
She may be going there, but it’s highly likely that she’s happily confident of instead going to heaven. Part of the corruption apparatus in any of these fascist states is a “religious” clergy dedicated to helping the miscreants rationalize all their actions.
Someone like Leavitt would need to be hit by a literal lightning bolt, for there to be any chance of her self-satisfaction being dented. And even then she’d probably tell herself it was a sign of favor from God, rather than a sign of condemnation.
Once people have rationalized their lies and hatred, and dug their hole, there is no way to reason with them.
To get them to turn around would mean that they have to understant what hateful, hurtful and just plain stupid people they have been.
The entire administration will go to their graves believing that they where the best of the best. Do understand that I am NOT advocating violence in any way.
She’s just going to plead the 5th and say nothing. The promise of a pardon or at least lovely prison conditions is powerful. What incentive does she have to tell the truth?
I don’t understand how one pleads the fifth for something they are already in jail for. Is she admitting that there is more crime out there that she was involved in that she hasn’t been punished for? Or is she admitting that there is some crime going on right now that she is involved in?
That’s not what Trump said. What Trump said was worse. His exact quote was:
Nobody understands a word this guy is saying
In other words, in Trump’s mind, “nobody” can understand Spanish. Which makes sense for a narcissist; if he can’t understand it, it’s not a real language. This is a guy who is president of a country that includes Puerto Rico. He’s literally their president. And he prefers to ignore that they exist. And if they really need help, he will just throw paper towels at them.
