They need to hold an alternate event. Donald can stare out at a room empty of everyone but a few scattered Fox News and Newsmax drones.
The fact that he plans to go apparently means that he thinks he’s consolidated his dictatorial powers. He thinks no one will dare criticize him. (Should we expect masked ICE agents with guns trained on the dais?)
Ellison owns CBS and will soon own CNN. I’m pretty sure somebody from those will still get an invite. And probably somebody pre-approved by management who knows the assignment
Well Trump is sure doing a number on my retirement investments. Yes I have a financial advisor, and yes she also hates Trump and is doing the best she can.
He didn’t serve in combat, but reportedly his vehicle was at one point struck by an RPG which failed to detonate. It’s not like he didn’t ever get put in harm’s way, though I’m sure he’s done plenty of that to himself, as much of a drunk as he is.
By Pete Hegseth’s account, his heavy drinking began after a brush with death when an RPG ricocheted off his vehicle but didn’t explode while he was serving in Iraq with an Army infantry unit.
I’ll also add that Hegseth is the one that claims this, so I wouldn’t say it’s confirmed or anything.
He also only reached the rank of Major as a reservist, and although that’s not a low rank, for Secretary of Defense (I’m not going to call it “war”, it’s a grownup job not a GI Joe cosplay) it’s excessively low.
But at least the dollar is tanking versus all our trading partners’ currencies. So on top of the large tax increase from tariffs, we also get huge increases in the dollar price of imported goods. Which are nearly all goods.
The U.S. has asked the Pan American Health Organization to delay the review of the United States’ measles elimination status until November … after the midterm elections. It was supposed to be next month. How … convenient.
But losing the status now seems inevitable to many public health experts. There have been constant outbreaks in the United States since January 2025, with no clear end in sight. Last year was the worst year for measles in the United States in more than two decades, and there have already been 10 new outbreaks this year.
If the United States were to lose its elimination status, that would now most likely happen after the November midterm elections. In the lead-up to the midterms, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pivoted away from his vaccine agenda, which includes scaling back the number of recommended shots for children and has proved unpopular in recent polls.
I’d like to add a public service announcement to this post as well - if you are in your late 50s to late 60s, check your measles immunity status. I recently had my annual physical and asked my doctor about whether I should get a measles booster, seeing as how the current measles hotbed is just one state over from where I live and it’s started to bleed over into my home state.
I was born shortly before the first measles vaccination became available and while I assume my parents did get me vaccinated (because they sure got me jabbed for everything else), the vaccines that were available between 1963 and 1971 were not as effective as what became available later. He ordered an antibody test for me, and I had NO immunity to measles. So I got my first dose of MMR ever last week.
I’ll second this recommendation. I was informed that the early measles vaccine protection can be fading or gone, and that getting measles as an adult can be incredibly serious, and even if you survive, it can reset your immune system than none of your vaccines work and you have to start over. Seemed sketchy to me, but was reassured this is the case.
Had the conversation with my Dad and found out he never was vaccinated for measles. WHAT? No, he had the measles as a child.
Trump and US sinks to new newer low. The vote at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 35-nation Board of Governors in Vienna put theUS alongside Russia, China, and Niger. This marked the first time the United States voted against such a resolution
I had measles, mumps, and chickenpox as a kid. Not all at once fortunately. That was bog standard life experience as a US youngster in the late 50s or early 60s. I’ve since had the MMR vaccine at least once.
Next week at my well-baby PCP visit I’ll be asking about my last recorded MMR jab and whether we should test my AB titer or just redo it.
But speaking of 50.000, the Dept of Labor (or whoever) expected there would be 50,000 new jobs created. Instead, 92,000 jobs were lost last month. ∆142,000 jobs.
I actually did have my measles immunity checked… last Summer? Autumn? I was told my immunity is intact.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the WHCA dinner exists to “honor” the POTUS, therefore Trump (nor any other sitting prez) is not the “honoree”.
