Followed, as usual, by an order of NACHOs.
I suppose we’ll have to spell it “Hørmøøz” from now on.
A Hørmøøz once bit my sister…
Never change, Straight Dope. Never change.
Can it be viewed elsewhere (I’m leery of anything AI-adjacent)?

Yes, it’s as complete a sentence as Discourse is entitled to.
Why is that? Just curious. Do you think it will harm your computer or phone? No snark-- maybe my ignorance needs to be fought.
After a while you come to distinguish the Donnie verbal excretions that there will be an attempt to implement from those that are just so batshit crazy that you can reasonably safely assume they will be flushed quietly away. The 20 percent vig was one of the latter.
Sure enough it was withdrawn shortly after - supposedly after the oil sheikhs yanked the chain.
Anyone with one percent of a brain could figure out that imposing 20 percent standover money on oil passing through the Hørmøøz was going to increase fuel prices and that the less brain dead amongst Donnie’s supporters were going to be smart enough to figure that out and blame him for it.
What is really interesting is that – if it’s true that the oil sheikhs were the ones who had to step in and press the flush button - it shows the extent to which Donnie is now so fully surrounded by yes people terrified of contradicting him that they are now incapable of flushing even his most mindbogglingly stinky turds.
Kind of a shame. I was looking forward to seeing some shipping company call Trump’s bluff. Make a deal with the Iranians to let your ship pass through for 10% of the cargo value, then start to pass through the Strait. How far would Trump be willing to go to enforce his blockade? It’s a win either way for the Iranians. Either the ship gets through and Trump is seen to be toothless, or he’s seen to order the Navy to blockade a merchant ship and be responsible for the inflation that goes along with it. The Iranians might like the optics so much that they might not even want payment.
I just don’t want to get drawn into the whole AI thing on principle.
Well this is the same administration that thought imposing a 20% (or 50%, 100% whatever) tariff on imported goods would come at no cost to the US as the imposition would be worn by the sellers. So he’s still yanking on that chain.
And if 30% of the worlds oil cost 20% more you can be sure that the cost of crude from every other region inc. US domestic would rise in parity. and subsequently everybody upstream in the supply chain would seek to hold their operating margin on the increased cost and add significant inflation. And some nice bonuses for Big Oil execs.
45/47 being an economics graduate from University of Pennsylvania, one might well be drawn to conclude he achieved this without attending any Econ 1.001 lectures.
Great job, White House!
I hear what you’re saying, but let’s give credit where it’s due and remember every Republican voter you know!
ICE: We’re suspending traffic stops in the wake of innocent people being killed as a result of the stops.
trump: Hell no! Keep the traffic stops coming!
The Treasury has started releasing US $1 coins with Toadface on them. This bothers me for lots of reasons
1.) Aside from a very few exceptions (like Abraham Lincoln at one point), no living president is supposed to be put on US currency during his lifetime, and certainly not while in office. That the Treasury bowed to this is intolerable. And Trump acts as if it’s a favor they did him. Right.
2.) It’s not the design that was approved earlier. Don’t they have to go through a re-approval if they make changes?
3.) Trump’s face is up there with “In God we Trust”. It could make you think that Trump was God.
trump: If they’re all that innocent, they don’t have to worry about being shot. Well, hardly ever.
I think at this point the only approval that matters is Trump’s. So he puts whatever he wants on it. If he changes his mind at the last minute, then it changes at the last minute.
Damn, that coin is ugly. It’s not just that it’s Trump’s face (which is bad enough) but it’s an attempt to replicate his “mob boss wannabe mug shot” that he thinks makes him look tough and not like a grumpy old toddler who was denied a second helping of pudding. And it is somehow worse than the original image; he looks dopey, eyes unfocused, mouth askew. It reminds me of those bronze busts that go hilariously wrong, but in coin form.
I have a feeling the extremely short run of these coins and the subsequent destruction of them in future generations will make them highly coveted collectors’ items someday. So, at least he has done that much good, if only for the numismatics of the world.
Yeah - That’s why I’m torn about getting an uncirculated one from the Mint. I don’t want to buy something with the Fat Fuck’s face on it, but if any coin is guaranteed to be rare, it’s this one.
