The administration’s handling of the Abrego Garcia case gets more outrageous and infuriating every day. Now they’re accusing the courts of interfering with foreign policy, which is a complete crock of shit. This has nothing to do with foreign policy. You guys fucked up – fix it. Somebody should be going to jail for contempt of court.
Right. I didn’t bold that one because he’s not doing it.
I didn’t bold that one either; but his use of ICE and Fatherland Homeland Security is a little too close to the Schutzstaffel.
‘Establishing an arbitrary government’? It does seem that he’s trampling on States’ Rights through extortion, and establishing Himself as King is establishing an arbitrary government.
He hasn’t abdicated Government here. He’s seized it. But at the same time, he’s waging war against the People.
All of those are un-bolded; but yeah, I did consider whether they were applicable.
Oh! Oh! Let me choose! Let me choose!
As I said elsewhere, it might end up being Marco Rubio (based on a radio program I heard earlier today where a law professor opined that Rubio is trapped between Trump and the courts on this issue). And I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being a scapegoat in this. Here is an MSNBC article:
But more specifically, in the García case, I don’t understand what it is Rubio doesn’t understand. A federal court ruled that García must not be sent to El Salvador. A variety of Trump administration officials, including the Trump-appointed solicitor general, have already admitted that it was a mistake to send him to the country.
And yet, to hear Rubio tell it, he’s mystified about the controversy — which necessarily leads to questions about whether the Cabinet secretary is genuinely confused or whether he was simply pretending to be foolish.
And then later:
All of this comes against a backdrop in which Rubio has, on multiple occasions, found that he’s not on the same page as the White House, amid multiple reports that Trump has largely sidelined his secretary of state, keeping him out of the decision-making process on matters of foreign policy.
I think Rubio is dumb, he’s not part of Trump’s “inner circle” despite his position as SoS (watch his body language when Donald Trump and JD Vance verbally abused President Zelenskyy and he looked like he didn’t know what was happening and didn’t want to be there). And he is publicly drawing a line in the sand where he is trying to claim the courts have no jurisdiction. These are his own words:
“No court in the United States has a right to conduct the foreign policy of the United States.”
He’s the one that seems the most defiant right now. I have a feeling he’s being told to do this because he doesn’t have the spine to come up with this on his own. And when the shit hits the fan, his face will be the one closest to it.
Can’t Trump pardon him if he actually gets into any kind of trouble?
Someone get the man a glass of water.
He even looked scared shitless way back then.
He should be able to avoid a prison sentence via pardon, since I imagine any charges would be federal in nature. But that sort of defeats the purpose of having a scapegoat. Plus, would Trump want to pardon him? He wouldn’t get anything out of it.
Deer… meet headlights.
Garcia and Rubio are only the actors. The play is about Trump (and his Heritage shit-stirrers) pushing the courts as far as possible to acquiesce to the executive. Between his appointees in lower courts and his Supreme Court lackeys, he/they are almost totally in power.
Ayup.
Good read:
Heritage and all its amoral acolytes, and Leonard Leo … the major players in the ratfuckery du jour, IMHO.
Yeah. He’s reportedly combing people’s social media posts to find reasons to deport them (hello??):
Seems like they might be working on that one:
(I checked the media bias rating for the Gazette and it says they lean center-right. Nonetheless, this article mentions that this idea is for the purpose of getting around Posse Comitatus.)
It’s a good thing this thread exists. I’ve never seen Posse Comitatus in print so looked it up. When they’ve said it on the radio and TV, I’ve thought it was an off-color reference - I was wrong and I’m glad about that.
The military zoning idea in itself sounds like it can get greatly out of hand. I think of the sordid things that happen on my nearby military base so can see that getting strewn badly along the Mexico/US border. Trump and his cabinet also don’t seem to think of small problems ahead of time; if I thought hard enough, I could imagine complications.
Oh, in their minds, it does have everything to do with foreign policy. He’s a foreigner. Their policy is to fuck over foreigners.
How many people would that then make who have gone to jail for felon47?
It did. That was during World War II. And I guess I should mention this: we didn’t actually fight against fascism during that war. We fought against fascists. It wasn’t their governing theory we didn’t like. It was the fact we were attacked by one of the allied countries of the fascist countries.
So, why do I bring that up? The convicted felon, once disgraced but now apparently rehabilitated (used in the sense communists use it) president loves himsef some fascim. Strike that. He loves himself a lot of fascism and loves the fascist countries’ leaders even more. Do you know who else loves fascism and a fascist dictator? Trump’s supporters.
‘We fought the wrong side in WWII’ (we should have sided with the fascists and not the communists) has been a thing on the right for as long as I can remember.
That’s a new one on me. Maybe the fact I grew up as an Army brat had something to do with it. How widespread is that sentiment?
Didn’t Patton think this?
ETA: Did Patton really say “We fought the wrong enemy”
A commenter said: In short, " we don’t know if he did say it, but he would say it"
I heard it decades ago.
He’s an asshole. He does it everyday, it pisses me off every time, I thought I’d share that.
He called Senator Van Hollen, “a phony.” Huh, we all know who the phony, spoiler, it ain’t Van Hollen.
It really pisses me off I have to listen to his bloviating, watch his preening for the camaras, and look at his ugly orange face.
Oh, oh, and what he did to the CDC page regarding Covid alone ought to be enough to impeach him. Or better yet put him in a foriegn slave prison.
I presume you mean this: Trump administration replaces COVID websites, takes down COVID signage - CBS News
