Trump on Meet the Press:
Kristin: When does it become the Trump economy?
Trump: It partially is right now, and I really mean this. I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy.

In 100 days, Trump went from ‘Everything will be cheaper,’ to ‘You will have some financial pain,’ to ‘Your kids won’t have toys for Christmas,’ to ‘I’m going to have a birthday parade that will cost $100 million.’
Thank you. So much this!! ^^
I’m borrowing that, @Johnny_L.A
So there is some like… hole or something through which Biden can actively sabotage the economy while sipping Mai Tais in Rehoboth Beach? Damn, Biden is powerful! I’m amazed that Trump would admit to such a shameful thing on national television!
Why not? I stole it from a meme!
Full disclosure: I did edit a little.
He’s saving Hollywood
US President Donald Trump says he will hit movies made in foreign countries with 100% tariffs, as he ramps up trade disputes with nations around the world.
I don’t care and don’t want to try and figure out how this EO/tariff parses out (plus I’m not in the USA anymore) and I’m not sure if they count, yet Andor and Black Mirror were filmed in the UK.
Truly, a bold cinematic gesture that can only help Hollywood earn a profit again. Finally, American audiences can be spared the burden of subtitles, nuance, and the haunting spectre of thought.
Brag about it, why don’tcha!
Well, glad I’m not there but the former slum-lord dictator-in-chief (thanks to Monty for the phrase) still lives rent-free inside my head. I just cannot keep up with the nuances of whatever executive order this one is. This will keep American movies American, else double the cost? I don’t care to read any more of his daily EO bullshit beyond the headline.
Another brilliant idea:
Alcatraz? Is he crazy? Poor Rowdy Roddy Piper was never the same after he got out of that place.
Ah. This is his deportation loophole for citizens. It’s a part of the US, so it’s not deportation. But the island location is remote and isolated and supposedly (almost) escape-proof.
It was closed because it cost three times to operate than other prisons because of its island location.
Where is Mr. “Waste, Fraud, and Abuse” when we need him?
Crazy like a fox! Remember Trump talking about being eaten by a shark when an electric boat sinks? They can show the inmates this video. Prisoners won’t want to escape.
I nominate him to be the first and only inmate. No phone. No internet. Just gold-colored bars and mirror-covered walls. (Fun-house mirrors are optional.)
I toured Alcatraz twenty years ago. It was run-down and decaying then, and it hasn’t gotten any better. RFK ordered its closure because it cost too much to run. Reopening it would be dumb, unnecessary and hugely expensive… so of course Trump wants to try.
Couple of minor problems. For one thing, none of the agencies he mentioned have anything to do with Alcatraz: it’s owned and managed by the National Park Service. For another, as @Elendil_s_Heir pointed out, it’s so deteriorated that it would cost more (and probably take more time) to “rebuild and enlarge* it” than to build a new supermax from scratch. But “The Rock” probably resonates better in one of his three brain cells.
* I guess this includes enlarging the island itself as well. Wouldn’t surprise me if he envisions filling in San Francisco Bay.
I’m seeing on social media that a local station in Palm Beach screened Escape From Alcatraz the other night. I guess we now know where this particular brain dropping originated.
I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay. There was a sarcastic play on the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s motto “Save the Bay”–Pave the Bay! They could build a huge causeway from Fisherman’s Wharf to Alcatraz.
It also brings in about $60M a year in tourism which will have to end if it is reopened.
Nah. Just charge the inmates for room and board.
Then when they don’t pay they get evicted.
If nothing else, it would absolutely help with a prison overpopulation problem.
