It sounds like Trump in his quest for efficiency is streamlining the Peter Principal so that rather than promoting workers to the level of their incompetency, they are hiring them at that level right out of the gate.

She clearly has extremely limited legal skills given her frequent failures in court. She’s the acting US Attorney for New Jersey.
Clearly it is a matter of he wants people who are like him. It could also be a control strategy, as people who are overmatched by their tasks are easier to manipulate.

He also seems to like people who are good-looking, or who appear (to him, at least) good on TV. He will take a handsome ninny over a competent person of average appearance every time.
I doubt he understands the distinction between competent and good looking.
We’re all subject to letting appearance affect our judgment of a person. But some of us at least attempt objectivity. He just dials it up to 11 and rips off the knob.
He has experience developing a reality TV show, so that’s how he approaches government.
He pissed me off last night by being at the latest UFC event. I was watching it on pay-per-view, and they kept cutting back to that smug, arrogant, oh-so-punchable face, and every fighter kept sucking up in their post-fight interviews.
ETA: Ivanka was there, too. But she was sitting like 3 rows behind him. That was at least slightly humorous.
I don’t think he puts even that much strategy into who he considers but rather how loyal they will be to him. Reportedly he is highly upset at Associate Justice Barrett for some of her decisions in the past few weeks after he got her position and all.
Or simply that. Either way competence is way down the list of attributes.
I wonder if he understands this just looking in the mirror while he smears on his make-up.
He is not a good looking man. He is not a competent man. He is ugly, in both visage and deed. What a grease-painted menace the USA has wrought upon us all.
That is unlikely. He almost certainly has a personal gardner who trowels on the paint and takes care of the mossy topiary.

Now I am offered a possible morsel of slight relief, as it looks likely that the Democrat Weather Interference Network Diffracting Laser Equipment is being homed in on DC to cause storms during the event.
